Job summary

Tech Mahindra is seeking a Data Engineer with 7+ years’ hands-on experience to lead design and delivery of a high-performing data platform. You will champion engineering best practices and mentor engineers across the business.

You will work with the Head of Data Engineering to implement strategy, build ingestion and transformation pipelines, and deliver reusable data products. A strong focus on security, governance and reliability will be essential.

Qualifications

• University degree in a quantitative discipline or equivalent experience.
• At least 7 years hands-on data engineering experience.
• Advanced SQL and Python knowledge.
• Experience with ETL/ELT platforms, data lakes, warehousing, and CDC.
• Experience with one or more cloud providers (AWS/GCP/Azure).
• Familiarity with modern data stack tools (dbt, Snowflake/Databricks, Airflow).
• Software engineering, MLOps or DevOps with CI/CD and Git.

Job description

We are looking for a Data Engineer with at least 7 years of hands-on experience to lead the design and delivery of a high-performing data engineering platform and reusable data products. Working closely with the Head of Data Engineering, you will help implement the data engineering strategy, build ingestion and transformation pipelines, and champion engineering best practices. This role combines hands-on technical delivery, mentoring and cross-functional collaboration to support the Data & Analytics Centre of Excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Set a high engineering standard, mentoring and inspiring engineers across the business.
• Lead the implementation of the data engineering strategy in partnership with the Head of Data Engineering.
• Lead the design and implementation of a high-performing data engineering platform.
• Lead hands-on development of data ingestion and transformation pipelines, patterns and practices to deliver a single source of truth for reusable data products.
• Contribute to the data product roadmap.
• Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities, engineering best practices and team-wide ways of working.
• Lead technical collaboration with engineering and IT teams to deliver reusable data products to the business.
• Support infrastructure teams in the end-to-end delivery of data engineering services.
• Support business-as-usual (BAU) data products and platforms, ensuring security, operationalisation, availability, reliability and maintainability.
• Work with Governance & Risk teams to manage data product risks effectively.
• Partner with Data Engineers, ML Engineers, Data Scientists, Analysts, Business Partners, Platform/DevOps Engineers, Project Managers/Scrum Masters, Testers and other business stakeholders.
• Support the Data & Analytics Centre of Excellence strategy and its execution.
• Collaborate to create outstanding team experiences across data and analytics.

Essential Skills and Experience

• A university degree in a quantitative discipline such as computer science, engineering, IT or mathematics, or equivalent experience.
• At least 7 years of hands-on data engineering experience.
• Advanced SQL and Python knowledge.
• Hands-on experience with ETL/ELT platforms and dimensional modelling, including data lakes, data warehousing, star schemas, Change Data Capture (CDC), orchestration and protection of personally identifiable information (PII).
• Experience with one or more major cloud providers, such as AWS, GCP or Azure.
• A solutions-focused mindset, natural curiosity and strong motivation to solve complex or ambiguous problems.
• A proactive, can-do attitude—the most important qualification for this role.
• Modern data stack experience, such as dbt, Snowflake/Databricks, Airflow and Fivetran/Airbyte.
• Software engineering, MLOps or DevOps experience, including CI/CD, source control, Java and Terraform.
