Job summary

HCL Technologies Limited in Sydney is seeking a data engineer to build and maintain dbt transformation models across pipeline layers, from ingestion to governed datasets.

You will write Snowflake SQL for complex transformations, develop and debug Airflow DAGs on AWS ECS, and contribute to Lambda-based ingestion with Python, file validation, and S3 event handling. You will maintain mappings and support downstream data sharing while collaborating across teams.

Qualifications

• Experience with dbt Core, Snowflake and Airflow in data engineering projects.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL for data transformations and automation.
• Experience with AWS services (S3, Lambda, MWAA, ECS) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain dbt transformation models across multiple pipeline layers from raw ingestion to governed datasets.
• Write Snowflake SQL for complex transformations including type casting, deduplication, incremental loads, and surrogate keys.

Location: Sydney

You will be building and maintaining dbt transformation models across multiple pipeline layers — from raw ingestion through to governed, consumer-ready datasets

You will write Snowflake SQL for complex transformations: type casting, deduplication, incremental load logic, surrogate key generation

You will develop and debug Apache Airflow DAGs on AWS ECS

You will contribute to AWS Lambda-based ingestion( Python) — file validation, control file generation, S3 event handling

You will maintain source-to-target mapping documentation and align models to business requirements and data specs

You will support onboarding of downstream consumers via data sharing mechanisms and event-driven notifications

You will participate in code reviews, writing YAML-based data quality tests, and owning tickets from design through to production

Strong SQL

Proficiency with dbt Core

Apache Iceberg Table format (Nice to have)

AWS - Working Knowledge of S3, Lambda, MWAA, ECS, Glue Catalogs, Lake Formation, Lambda, SQS, EventBridge

Experience with fixed-format or structured financial data files

CICD with Github Actions.
