MuraConnect partners with a government organisation to recruit an experienced Data Engineer for a major ICT modernisation program in Brisbane. You will design and maintain scalable data pipelines using Microsoft Fabric, Azure and SQL, and help transition critical data systems into business-as-usual operations.

You will optimise ETL/ELT processes, implement CI/CD practices, support data modelling and governance, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver reliable, secure data

Qualifications

• 3+ years' experience in data engineering.
• Proficient with Azure Synapse and Fabric.
• Experience with SQL, SSIS, SSRS and data integration.
• Hands-on ETL/ELT development and data modelling.

MuraConnect is partnering with a leading government organisation responsible for managing employment and skills development to identify an experienced Data Engineer to support a major ICT modernisation and transformation program. This is a contract opportunity through to 30 June 2027, with potential extension. You'll play a key role in designing and maintaining scalable, secure data solutions using Microsoft Fabric, Azure and SQL, while supporting the transition of critical data systems into business-as-usual operations.

The Role

As the Data Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and optimising data pipelines, ensuring data integrity and supporting modern cloud-based data solutions, including:

• Designing and maintaining scalable data pipelines using Microsoft Fabric and Azure
• Managing data ingestion, transformation and storage across Fabric Lakehouses and Delta Lakes
• Developing and optimising data solutions using PySpark, PySQL and advanced SQL
• Monitoring and troubleshooting data pipelines to ensure reliability and performance
• Supporting data modelling, architecture and data quality improvements
• Facilitating the transition of data solutions into BAU operations
• Implementing DevOps and CI/CD practices to streamline deployments
• Collaborating with technical teams to enhance reporting, analytics and operational capabilities

About You

To be successful, you will be an experienced Data Engineer with strong technical expertise across Microsoft data technologies and a proven ability to deliver reliable, scalable solutions within complex ICT environments.

You will bring:

• 3+ years' experience in data engineering
• Strong experience with Azure Synapse, Microsoft Fabric and data lake architectures
• Proficiency in SQL, SSIS, SSRS and data integration
• Hands-on experience developing data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes
• Experience with PySpark, data transformation and performance optimisation
• Strong understanding of data modelling, governance and data quality
• Experience working across hybrid cloud environments
• Excellent problem-solving, stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills
• Experience supporting operational handovers and BAU environments

Microsoft Azure Data Engineer Associate certification or equivalent will be highly regarded.
