Job summary

Velan Consulting Pty Ltd is seeking a Data Centre Optical Network Specialist for an on-site Canberra contract. The role focuses on CIENA optical transport networks across two data centres, requiring 5+ years of experience and strong knowledge of DCN/DON architectures, fibre and copper cabling, provisioning, testing, and fault resolution.

The candidate will deliver and sustain critical ICT infrastructure, coordinate with internal teams and vendors, and produce essential design and operation

Qualifications

• Formal IT/Telecom qualification or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 5+ years’ experience engineering, operating and supporting CIENA optical transport networks.

Responsibilities

• Install and support network, server and ICT infrastructure within data centres.
• Undertake fibre optic and copper cabling installation, termination and testing.
• Support operation and sustainment of DCN and DON environments.
• Apply networking knowledge to troubleshoot and optimise infrastructure performance.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation (HLD/LLD, build guides, procedures).
• Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors to deliver infrastructure solutions.
• Ensure work aligns with standards, procedures, and safety requirements.
