Job summary

Calleo Australia is seeking a Data Centre Field Infrastructure Engineer to support a major ICT program for a Federal Government department in Sydney, NSW. The role requires hands-on data centre, server, network and facilities expertise, with an emphasis on secure, scalable infrastructure.

The successful candidate will lead infrastructure changes, coordinate operations, and deliver architecture and documentation for future growth while collaborating with project teams and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Data centre design, operations and infrastructure management.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain data centre and ICT infrastructure solutions.
• Provide technical leadership to project teams and stakeholders.
• Lead infrastructure changes, upgrades and deployment activities.
• Manage data centre operations including rack allocation, capacity planning, power usage and cabling.
• Develop architecture, designs, standards and procedures.
• Support project delivery with project managers and technical teams.
• Lead incident response, troubleshooting and root cause analysis for critical issues.
• Identify opportunities to improve reliability, security, performance and efficiency.
• Review and approve changes and implementations.
• Maintain roadmaps and lifecycle plans.
• Produce technical documentation and knowledge transfer materials.
• Mentor team members as needed.

About the role

Our client, one of the Federal Government departments, is seeking an experienced Data Centre Field Infrastructure Engineer to join a major infrastructure program supporting critical ICT services.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands‑on infrastructure professional with strong experience across data centre environments, network infrastructure, server platforms, facilities design, and operational support.

You will play a key role in ensuring infrastructure environments remain secure, reliable, scalable and fit for future growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain data centre and ICT infrastructure solutions.
• Provide technical leadership and expert advice to project teams and stakeholders.
• Lead infrastructure changes, upgrades and deployment activities.
• Manage and coordinate data centre operations, including rack allocation, capacity planning, power utilisation and cabling standards.
• Develop infrastructure architecture, operational designs, standards and procedures.
• Support project delivery by working closely with project managers and technical teams.
• Lead incident response activities, troubleshooting and root cause analysis for critical issues.
• Identify opportunities to improve reliability, security, performance and operational efficiency.
• Review and approve technical changes and infrastructure implementations.
• Maintain infrastructure roadmaps and lifecycle management plans.
• Produce high‑quality technical documentation and knowledge transfer materials.
• Mentor and support team members where required.

Skills & Experience To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate experience in:

• Data centre design, operations and infrastructure management.
• Enterprise server, network and cloud infrastructure environments.
• Infrastructure architecture and systems design.
• Availability, incident, problem and change management.
• Infrastructure installation, migration and decommissioning activities.
• Technical troubleshooting within complex ICT environments.
• Developing technical standards, procedures and documentation.
• Delivering infrastructure projects within structured governance frameworks.
• Working effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Highly Regarded

• Experience delivering data centre or large-scale ICT infrastructure projects.
• Experience coordinating technical resources and project activities.
• Federal Government or other large enterprise environment experience.
• Understanding of infrastructure lifecycle planning and capacity management.

Clearance Requirement

Current NV1 Security Clearance is mandatory.
