Senior Data Centre Design Infrastructure Engineer

Location: Sydney, NSW
Contract: Initial contract until 30 June 2027
Extensions: Two 12-month extension options
Hours: Up to 40 hours per week
Working arrangement: Initial onsite period, followed by potential hybrid work
Security clearance: NV1 clearance is must

About the Role

A Federal Government organisation is seeking an experienced Senior Data Centre Design Infrastructure Engineer to support the design and modernisation of critical ICT rooms and network infrastructure.

You will provide specialist infrastructure design services across secure and complex environments. The role requires strong experience in data centre design, network topology, power and cooling capacity, rack layouts, technical documentation, and infrastructure assurance.

This is a senior position suited to someone who can manage multidisciplinary activities, provide technical guidance, identify infrastructure risks, and produce accurate design documentation.

Key duties and responsibilities

The Specified Personnel will be responsible for providing the following deliverables including but not limited to:

• Managing a multi discipline team with complex and different interfaces;
• Providing strategic planning, mapping and modelling development;
• Providing concise data reports and clear data visualizations for management;
• Producing creative data visualizations and intuitive graphics to presenting complex analytics;
• Pinpointing trends, correlations and patterns in complicated data sets;
• Providing advice on information and data governance and standards;
• Triaging code problems and data-related issues and identify risk;
• Documenting all aspects of the data design and decision;
• Cleaning and pruning data to discard irrelevant information;
• Scheduling and managing tasks within a team;
• Assisting in improving the maturity of information management within the Department;
• Discovering trends, patterns and stories told by the data, structured and unstructured, and presenting them to stakeholders.

Essential Skills and Experience

• Strong experience designing data centre, ICT room or network infrastructure.
• Experience with availability management and service resilience.
• Experience monitoring infrastructure capacity and resolving capacity shortfalls.
• Strong understanding of operational ICT infrastructure procedures.
• Experience investigating and resolving complex infrastructure problems.
• Ability to design large or complex systems while balancing functional and non-functional requirements.
• Experience developing or modifying scripts to support infrastructure activities.
• Strong technical writing, drafting and documentation skills.
• Ability to identify, prioritise and manage infrastructure risks and issues.
• Strong stakeholder communication and team coordination skills.
