Job summary

The NSW Ombudsman is seeking a Manager, Data Analytics in Sydney CBD with hybrid and flexible working options. You will lead the Data Analytics Unit, deliver analyses for complaints handling and executive decisions, and drive automation of KPI reporting. The role requires strong SQL, Power BI, people management, and cloud data platform experience.

Salary up to $202,453 plus superannuation and annual leave loading; 35-hour week with hybrid work arrangement and close to Town Hall station.

Qualifications

• Strong SQL and analytical capability; interrogate data systematically and review work for quality.
• Power BI and reporting expertise; automate KPI reporting and dashboards for operational and executive use.
• Proven people management experience including coaching and performance management.
• Excellent stakeholder communication; translate technical findings for non-technical leaders.
• Strong judgement and delivery skills; manage multiple requests with quality under tight deadlines.
• Sound development practices: version control, testing, documentation and peer review.
• Data modelling and engineering oversight; supervise data pipelines and structures.
• Modern cloud data platform experience; Azure preferred, other cloud acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Data Analytics Unit with up to 6 reports across analytics, engineering and business analysis.
• Deliver analyses to support complaints handling, investigations and executive decisions; identify trends and improvement opportunities.
• Provide technical leadership and hands-on review of analyses, data models and pipelines.
• Automate KPI and reporting processes; centralise reporting to reduce manual effort.
• Develop Power BI reporting; enhance dashboards for operations and boards.
• Improve data quality after ERP rollout; resolve inconsistencies between systems.
• Oversee the survey program and stakeholder feedback to improve services.
• Manage priorities and develop the team while ensuring privacy and security controls.
