Job summary

The Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (DPHI) is seeking a Data Analyst to transform complex NSW Crown Lands data into actionable insights. You will develop reports, dashboards and BI solutions for operational and strategic needs, engaging with stakeholders to ensure accurate delivery.

The role is based in Parramatta with flexible working options and a salary range of AU$116,981 to AU$129,412 plus super, depending on experience.

Qualifications

  • Experience in data analysis, BI, reporting and visualization.
  • Advanced SQL and complex query development.
  • Python for data analysis, automation and processing.
  • Designing Power BI dashboards and reports.
  • Experience with enterprise databases and large datasets.

Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly motivated Data Analyst to join our growing team and play a key role in delivering data-driven insights that support operational excellence, business improvement, and effective service delivery.

This is an exciting opportunity for an analytical and technically skilled professional to work with large and complex datasets, modern data platforms, and a broad range of stakeholders to deliver impactful reporting, visualisation, and business intelligence solutions.

The role

As a Data Analyst, you'll be responsible for turning data into actionable intelligence by developing reports, dashboards, and analytical solutions that support both operational and strategic decision-making.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Analysing, validating and reconciling data from multiple systems and sources to ensure reliability and accuracy.
  • Developing and maintaining SQL queries, Python scripts, and database objects to support reporting, automation, and data extraction requirements.
  • Designing and building engaging Power BI dashboards, reports and visualisations that provide meaningful business insights.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into practical reporting and analytical solutions.
  • Producing recurring and ad hoc reports that support operational, statutory and business reporting needs.
  • Developing and supporting ETL/ELT processes to improve data integration, quality and consistency.
  • Conducting testing and validation activities to continually enhance reporting capabilities and data integrity.
  • Maintaining reporting documentation, business definitions and data dictionaries to support consistent data interpretation across the organisation.

What you will bring to the role

We're looking for someone who combines strong technical capability with excellent problem-solving and stakeholder engagement skills.

Key Skills & Experience
  • Demonstrated experience in data analysis, business intelligence, reporting and visualisation.
  • Advanced SQL skills and experience developing complex queries and reporting solutions.
  • Experience using Python for data analysis, automation and data processing activities.
  • Strong experience designing and developing Power BI dashboards and reports.
  • Experience working with enterprise databases, data warehouses, and large-scale datasets.
  • Knowledge of ETL/ELT processes and data integration technologies.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting and data validation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
Essential Requirements
  • Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology or relevant field or industry credentials such asMicrosoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300), Azure Data Engineer Associate (DP-203); Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) or equivalent experience

Current Driver Licence

Willing and able to travel within NSW
