Job summary

Mars, a global FMCG leader with a century-long heritage, is seeking a Customer Development Analyst for the Coles account in Melbourne. You will act as the operational backbone, handling end-to-end administrative processes, promotional execution, and financial reconciliations to drive ROI.

You will partner with internal teams and Coles stakeholders to deliver insights, manage a dedicated Coles Pet Care sub-category, and support future growth initiatives.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated capability in leveraging sales, scan, and financial data to uncover actionable commercial insights.
• Strong Excel skills and comfort with trade management platforms.
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and external retailers.
• Understanding of promotional programs, pricing, and ROI in a fast-paced retail environment.
• Tertiary degree in Business, Commerce, Marketing, or related discipline preferred.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end administrative and commercial processes for the Coles relationship, including promotions and new line introductions.
• Manage accruals, claims, and deductions; provide financial analysis to optimise ROI.
• Support NPD, promotional submissions, and pricing execution with the Coles team.
• Partner with cross-functional teams and Coles stakeholders to deliver actionable insights and joint growth plans.
• Take ownership of a Coles Pet Care sub-category, building relationships with Coles Category Managers and executing category strategies.
• Identify process bottlenecks and champion improvements and reporting efficiencies across Mars and Coles.

At Mars Pet Nutrition, we are seeking a Customer Development Analyst to join our high-performing Coles account team. In this pivotal role, you will be the operational backbone and analytical engine behind one of our largest retail partnerships, supporting a core commercial portfolio.

This role offers an exceptional launchpad into National Account Management or Commercial Strategy. Beyond operational discipline and financial administration, you will have direct stakeholder and category range management exposure, and a pathway for commercial growth.

What you’ll do

• Own critical end-to-end administrative and commercial processes for the Coles customer relationship, ensuring seamless execution across promotional programs and new line introductions.
• Oversee accrual management, claims reconciliation, and deduction resolution, providing financial analysis and recommendations to optimise ROI and operational efficiency.
• Support the Coles enrichment and activation process for New Product Development (NPD), promotional submissions, and pricing execution in close collaboration with Customer Development Leads.
• Customer Collaboration & Joint Business Planning (JBP): Partner with internal cross-functional teams and external retail stakeholders to generate actionable insights and commercial solutions that support joint growth plans.
• Take guided commercial ownership of a dedicated Coles Pet Care sub-category, partnering with the Customer Development Head to build relationships with Coles Category Managers, sell in new ranges, and execute category strategies.
• Continuous Improvement: Identify process bottlenecks and champion automation, simplification, and reporting efficiencies across both Mars and Coles teams.

Your unique ingredients

• Analytical Rigour & Commercial Acumen: Demonstrated capability in leveraging sales, scan, and financial data to uncover actionable commercial insights and evaluate promotional performance.
• Technical Skills: High proficiency in Microsoft Excel; prior experience with trade management / accrual platforms (e.g., Promax) and retail scan data tools is advantageous.
• Customer & Stakeholder Agility: Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence cross-functional peers and build long-term, trusted customer relationships.
• Execution & Prioritisation: Outstanding organisational habits, strong attention to detail, and a proactive mindset to balance competing deadlines in a fast-paced retail environment.
• Qualifications: A tertiary degree in Business, Commerce, Marketing, or a related discipline is preferred (or equivalent practical FMCG/retail experience).
