Job summary

Macquarie Neurosurgery & Spine is seeking a CSF Neurosurgery Fellow to provide clinical and surgical services and contribute to the development of the unit. The fellow will be trained on campus at Macquarie University Health and participate in MDT meetings, education, and outreach in regional NSW.

Registration as a medical practitioner in Australia (AHPRA) is required, along with medical indemnity insurance and NSW Working with Children’s Check.

Qualifications

• Registration as a medical practitioner in Australia (AHPRA).
• Active Accredited Practitioner of Macquarie University Hospital (or eligible).
• Professional Indemnity Insurance required.
• Working with Children’s Check Clearance for NSW.
• Criminal record check.
• Immunization and Vaccinations Check.
• Overseas applicants must provide evidence of English proficiency (OET or IELTS).
• Evidence must be submitted at time of application.

Job description

Macquarie Neurosurgery & Spine is seeking a CSF Neurosurgery Fellow to provide clinical and surgical services and contribute to the development of the unit. The successful candidate will be trained by Macquarie Neurosurgery & Spine, located on campus at Macquarie University Health. This full-time position will provide the successful candidate with an outstanding opportunity to experience neurosurgery in a private university hospital and academic health science centre. The candidate will also actively participate in the weekly education and academic meetings. In addition the successful candidate will attend outreach clinics at various locations in regional New South Wales.

Our patient centred approach includes weekly Multi Disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings, harnessing the intellectual capability and expertise of cross functional teams. Bringing together neurosurgeons, neurologists, interventional neuroradiologists, pain specialists, oncologists, orthopaedics surgeons, ENT specialists as the team manage complex conditions and more routine disorders to provide patients with the best possible medical care.

Training will be provided under the supervision of our subspecialist neurosurgeons including, Professor Stoodley who heads a research team at Macquarie University. This is one of the largest neurosurgery research groups in Australasia, with world-leading research efforts in syringomyelia and CSF physiology, and in the development of new treatments for brain AVMs. Cerebral Bypass Surgery for Moyamoya and other Occlusive diseases. Professor Stoodley’s clinical expertise includes;

Syringomyelia

Hydrocephalus

Intracranial hypertension

Intracranial hypotension (spinal CSF leaks)

Key responsibilities
