Job summary

Talent Corp is seeking a Field Engineering professional for a 12-month contract covering data-centre sites in Sydney. You will act as a technical escalation point for complex controls issues, moving from field evidence to root cause and to practical improvements, across BMS, EPMS, PLC and SCADA systems.

You will interact with operations, commissioning, cybersecurity, design and vendor teams to drive fault-finding, validation and continuous improvement initiatives in a dynamic APAC environment.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience designing, commissioning, or optimising BMS/EPMS/PLC/SCADA systems.
• Ability to review controls logic and conduct structured fault-finding and root-cause analysis.
• Experience with Sequences of Operations for cooling or mechanical equipment.
• Strong knowledge of industrial networks and protocols (BACnet/Modbus).
• Excellent written and verbal communication, with ownership and curiosity to work through unfamiliar technical problems.

Our client is a leading global technology organisation operating large-scale, mission-critical infrastructure. Its Field Engineering team supports the safe, reliable operation and continuous improvement of a data-centre portfolio.

The role

This initial 12-month contract will provide coverage within the Field Engineering team. You will act as a technical escalation point for complex controls issues, moving from field evidence to root cause and from root cause to practical, repeatable engineering improvements.

Based primarily at data-centre locations across Sydney, you will work at the intersection of controls software, networking, mechanical systems, electrical systems and critical-facility operations. The work is varied and may also involve desktop-based reviews and technical guidance for stakeholders across APAC.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate complex controls incidents using trend data, alarms, event logs, code, system evidence and field observations.
• Review controls logic, function blocks and approved Sequences of Operations to identify faults, risks and opportunities for improvement.
• Troubleshoot BMS, EPMS, PLC, SCADA, controllers, field I/O, sensors, actuators and controls networks.
• Complete code reviews and contribute to reusable templates, controls standards, test scripts and engineering playbooks.
• Support controls retrofit designs, legacy system updates and first-of-kind pilots from technical review through validation.
• Prepare clear root-cause analyses, technical reports and recommendations for engineering and operational stakeholders.
• Partner with operations, commissioning, deployment, design, cybersecurity, product teams and vendors to resolve technical issues.

Skills and experience

• Hands-on experience designing, programming, commissioning, servicing or optimising BMS, EPMS, PLC, SCADA or comparable controls systems.
• Ability to review controls code, logic or function blocks and conduct structured fault-finding and root-cause analysis.
• Experience interpreting or developing Sequences of Operations, ideally for cooling systems, pumps, air-handling units, chillers or similar mechanical equipment.
• Strong understanding of controllers, field devices, network infrastructure and industrial protocols such as BACnet or Modbus.
• Clear written and verbal communication, with the autonomy, ownership and curiosity to work through unfamiliar technical problems.
• Experience in data centres is advantageous but not essential. Candidates from building automation, industrial controls, controls commissioning, manufacturing, robotics, critical facilities or controls-focused reliability engineering backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Benefits and additional information

• Initial 12-month contract.
• Sydney-based role, the location may vary according to operational requirements.
• Monday to Friday, generally 8.00am-4.00pm or 9.00am-5.00pm, with no regular weekend work or standard out-of-hours requirement.
• No regular travel is expected. Any occasional travel requirement would be discussed in advance.
• Exposure to complex, large-scale infrastructure and changing technical challenges across a regional environment.
