Job summary

NSW Health seeks a Crisis Support Counsellor within the Integrated Violence Prevention & Response Service (IVPRS) at Blacktown Community Health Centre. You will deliver crisis counselling and advocacy to those affected by sexual assault and domestic violence, enabling access to medical and forensic services and short-term psychosocial support.

You will work in a trauma-informed, culturally safe, multidisciplinary team, contributing to capacity-building and coordinated care across Western Sydney

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification (minimum bachelor's degree) in Social Work, Psychology or Counselling.
• Eligibility for appropriate professional registration or association membership.
• Demonstrated counselling experience in complex trauma within Violence, Abuse & Neglect settings.
• Proven assessment, case management and counselling skills with children, young people and adults.
• Understanding intergenerational trauma and cultural safety; experience with culturally responsive services.
• Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication; ability to collaborate with stakeholders.
• Knowledge of legal systems and procedures relating to violence, abuse and neglect.
• Current NSW Driver's License.

- Psychologist: $83,670 - $122,465 per annum

What you'll be doing

As a Crisis Support Counsellor, you will provide immediate, compassionate and evidence-based support to individuals impacted by sexual assault and domestic violence. This is a rewarding role where you will help clients navigate crisis situations, access essential services and begin their journey towards recovery.

• Deliver crisis counselling, advocacy, support and information to victims of sexual assault and domestic violence
• Facilitate access to medical and forensic services while working collaboratively with key stakeholders
• Provide short-term case management, risk assessment and psychosocial support to clients with complex needs
• Participate in a 24-hour on-call roster supporting adults and young people following recent sexual assault
• Contribute to integrated care through joint case management, referrals, consultation, community engagement and capacity-building initiatives

Selection Criteria:

1. Tertiary qualification (minimum bachelor's degree) in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling or Graduate Certificate in Human & Community Services (Interpersonal Trauma) and eligibility for appropriate professional registration or association membership.
2. Demonstrated counselling experience in complex trauma and trauma informed practice within a Violence, Abuse & Neglect setting (e.g. sexual assault, child protection or domestic violence services).
3. Demonstrated assessment, case management and counselling skills with children, young people and adults.
4. Demonstrated understanding of the inter-related dynamics and effects of sexual assault, physical abuse and neglect and domestic violence and a commitment to integrated models for working with clients who have experienced trauma and abuse.
5. Demonstrated understanding of intergenerational trauma and the principles of cultural safety, with experience in (or commitment to) providing culturally responsive services to individuals and families.
6. Highly developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated capacity to work with in collaboration and partnership with a wide range of key internal and external stakeholders.
7. Knowledge and understanding of the legal systems, legislation and procedures relating to violence, abuse and neglect.
8. Current NSW Driver's License
