Nelson Brown Legal is a trusted criminal law firm providing high quality legal advice and representation across Melbourne and Victoria.

We are looking for a passionate and dedicated criminal lawyer, with a minimum of two years of advocacy experience, to join our team.

The successful applicant will gain an excellent and diverse range of experience whilst reporting to our Principal, Nelson Brown, who is an Accredited Specialist in criminal law.

The Nelson Brown Legal team is supportive, efficient and professional.

You will be responsible for:

providing high quality legal advice and representation across Melbourne and Victoria

daily appearances in the Magistrates' Court and County Court of Victoria

instructing counsel at all jurisdictions of Victoria

creating and maintaining client files and documents

case management and preparing detailed briefs

client liaison – providing advice and taking instructions

various stakeholder liaison – such as Victoria Legal Aid, Counsel, psychologists and support workers.

To be successful you must have the following:

at least two years of advocacy experience as a criminal lawyer

comprehensive knowledge of Victorian criminal law and procedure

effective and confident casework and advocacy skills

ability to prioritise and effectively manage time to meet competing priorities

exceptional client management skills

excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Mandatory requirements:

have the right to work in Australia (i.e., be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or hold a valid work permit or visa).

current valid Australian Driver’s Licence

Working with Children Check or capacity to apply.

Salary is negotiable and commensurate with experience.
