Charlton Christian College is a K–12 co-educational Christian college of over 800 students, located in Fassifern, Lake Macquarie. Our mission is to provide a Christ-centred education of excellence that helps students develop their God-given potential.
We are seeking a qualified and compassionate Counsellor to join our College. This role supports the emotional, social, and spiritual wellbeing of students from Kindergarten to Year 12, and contributes to whole-of-school wellbeing initiatives.
You will work collaboratively with teaching and leadership staff, provide individual and group-based counselling support, and contribute to a safe, caring, and inclusive college environment. The successful applicant will be part of the Principal’s Team and play a key role in student care, case management, and early intervention programs.
Selection Criteria
The successful applicant will demonstrate:
A personal Christian faith and active involvement in a local church, with a commitment to the College’s Christian ethos and Statement of Faith.
Tertiary qualifications in counselling or a related discipline (e.g. psychology, social work), and eligibility for membership with a recognised professional body such as ACA or AASW.
Experience providing counselling support to children and adolescents, including individual and group interventions, within a school or comparable setting.
Knowledge of current best practice in student wellbeing and mental health, including child protection, mandatory reporting, and trauma-informed care.
Experience in case management and interagency collaboration, including liaison with families, educators, and external professionals.
Demonstrated ability in behavioural competencies including:
• Working with People – builds rapport, shows empathy, and maintains professional boundaries
• Adhering to Principles and Values – acts with integrity, upholds ethics and confidentiality
• Planning and Organising – manages time and resources effectively
• Adapting and Responding to Change – adjusts to different people, challenges, and environments
Current Working with Children Check and an understanding of child safety obligations in educational settings.
