Job summary

Future Generation Joint Venture (FGJV) is hiring an Environmental Coordinator for the Snowy 2.0 project in the Snowy Mountains (NSW). You will coordinate day-to-day environmental management activities on site and support the construction team to uphold the Environmental Management System and Licence conditions.

Key tasks include developing environmental plans, leading audits, mentoring Advisors, and ensuring timely risk assessments and reporting while fostering a proactive HSSE culture on

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in environmental management or a related discipline.
  • White Card (construction site induction).

Responsibilities

  • Provide advice and support to the site construction management team to ensure compliance with statutory FGJV and client environmental obligations.
  • Implement and develop environmental plans and subsidiary systems documentation as required.
  • Communicate HSSE issues and standards.
  • Support the site environment team and ensure they are properly resourced to meet all relevant environmental obligations.
  • Assist in identifying environmental training requirements.
  • Analyse and report FGJV lead (LPI’s) and lag (incident reporting) targets to Project Management.
  • Review changes to design or methodologies affecting environment or sustainability and ensure they are captured in risk assessments, JSEAs or SWMSs as required.
  • Ensure all incident events and investigations are properly conducted, recorded and information closed out in accordance with FGJV reporting timeframes.
  • Escalate critical environmental issues.
  • Promote a dynamic and positive QHSSE culture focused on achieving success.
  • Coach and mentor Environmental Advisors.
  • Manage and coordinate all environmental actions raised.
  • Draft regulatory response letters and reports as required.
  • Support all environmental audits as required.
  • Lead the site Environmental Technical Assistants.
  • Ensure representation is maintained at key construction planning and coordination meetings.
  • Undertake additional tasks, as directed by Environmental Management/Superintendent to support FGJV’s Project HSSE goals and values.

Job description

The Future Generation Joint Venture brings together the combined engineering experience and expertise of WeBuild, Clough and Lane and has been selected to design construct Snowy 2.0. This project is based within the Snowy Mountains in NSW and will deliver one of the largest pumped hydro schemes in the world.

Snowy 2.0 is the next chapter in the Snowy Scheme's history. It is the largest committed renewable energy project in Australia and will provide on-demand energy and large-scale storage for many generations to come. This Iconic Project has and will continue to create its own legacy in Australian history.

Purpose of the Role

The Environmental Coordinator is accountable for the day-to-day coordination of site-based environmental management activities and construction team support to ensure that Future Generation Joint Venture (FGJV) maintains a robust Environmental Management System in accordance with the approved Environmental Protection Licence, Conditions of Consent, Environmental Management Strategy and associated Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) and client specifications.

Qualifications
  • Tertiary qualifications in environmental management or a related discipline
  • White Card
Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in the construction industry in a similar role preferred
  • Experience in the development and implementation of environmental management systems and plans
  • Interpretation and implementation of environmental programs to ensure compliance with environmental approval conditions and environmental management systems
  • Experience working on large scale construction projects or other suitable project works
  • Demonstrated experience managing teams on environmentally sensitive projects
  • Ability to build sound working relationships with clients and colleagues
  • Ability to coach and mentor
  • Ability to work to deadlines and targets
  • Ability to effectively prioritise and make confident decisions
  • Strong initiative, organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain focus and deliver outcomes in dynamic or challenging situations while adapting to changing priorities
  • Sound negotiation skills
  • Capability to lead teams effectively and maintain a productive work environment during periods of high workload or organisational change
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively with on-site construction teams
  • Fundamental understanding of ISO AS/NZS 14001
