Job summary

Moira Shire Council is seeking a Coordinator Animal Management and Local Laws to support the Director Sustainable Communities in delivering legislative compliance and community safety services. This permanent full-time role leads a team and collaborates across departments to implement council policies.

The role requires a relevant qualification with extensive local government experience and strong negotiation and change management skills.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant field or extensive local government experience.
  • Strong knowledge of local laws and animal management policies.
  • Experience with community safety, fire prevention, and emergency response.
  • Ability to interpret legislation and provide accurate advice.
  • Proven negotiation, change management, and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Director Sustainable Communities to meet council plans and legislative responsibilities.
  • Lead and manage a team in delivering animal management and local laws services.

Role Purpose and Objectives
  • The Local Laws and Animal Management Coordinator contributes to the achievement of Council goals and priorities by effectively supporting and assisting the Director Sustainable Communities to achieve the requirements of the council plan, policies and legislative responsibilities.

Desired Skills and Experience

please include a cover letter addressing the following Key Selection Criteria:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualification in a relevant field and/or extensive experience in community safety, all facets of law enforcement, animal management, emergency management preferably in a local government environment.
  • Proficient in the interpretation and application of local laws and animal management policies, legislation to ensure competent provision of accurate advice, information and recommendations.
  • Experience working within a regulatory environment with a high level of exposure to community safety, local laws, animal management, fire prevention and emergency response components and knowledge of maters within the Magistrates’ Court and VCAT.
  • Analytical and investigative skills in policy formulation.
  • Demonstrated negotiation, conflict resolution and problem solving skills gained through experience and formal accredited courses.
  • Highly developed consultative and collaborative abilities in initiating, managing and implementing change.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team and relate well to others.
