Job summary

Ethnic Communities Council of Queensland – Indooroopilly QLD is seeking a dedicated Cook for a casual role in a residential aged care setting. You will prepare and serve nutritious meals while meeting dietary, texture-modified, and cultural requirements.

Qualifications

• Experience in preparing meals for large numbers with attention to quality and consistency.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, cook, portion, and present meals per approved menus and resident needs.
• Ensure meals meet dietary requirements and cultural preferences.
• Maintain kitchen hygiene, safety, and accurate records of temperatures and meal logs.
• Receive, label, rotate, and store food safely; assist with stock control and wastage reduction.
• Report maintenance issues and use cleaning chemicals safely.
• Collaborate with care teams to support resident wellbeing and dining satisfaction.
• Participate in training, quality improvement, and WHS activities.
• Treat residents and staff with dignity, respect and confidentiality.

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Cook to join our hospitality team. In this role, you will prepare and serve safe, nutritious, and appealing meals for residents while meeting documented dietary, texture-modified, cultural, and individual dietary requirements.

You will contribute to a positive dining experience and help maintain the highest standards of food safety, hygiene, and resident care.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare, cook, portion, and present meals and snacks in accordance with approved menus, recipes, production schedules, and resident requirements.

• Ensure meals comply with documented dietary requirements, allergies, food intolerances, texture-modified diets, and cultural preferences.

• Maintain high standards of food safety, kitchen hygiene, infection control, and cleanliness.

• Receive, label, rotate, and store food safely while assisting with stock control and minimising wastage.

• Complete required food safety documentation, including temperature monitoring and meal records.

• Use kitchen equipment and cleaning chemicals safely and report maintenance issues, hazards, or incidents promptly.

• Work collaboratively with hospitality, care, and clinical teams to support resident wellbeing and dining satisfaction.

• Participate in training, quality improvement initiatives, and workplace health and safety activities.

• Treat residents, families, colleagues, and visitors with dignity, respect, and confidentiality.

• Comply with organisational policies, food safety requirements, aged care standards, and workplace health and safety obligations.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Experience working as a Cook preferably within aged care, in a commercial kitchen, healthcare, hospitality, or a similar environment.

• Sound knowledge of food preparation, food hygiene, food safety legislation, and infection control practices.

• Experience preparing meals for large numbers of people while maintaining quality and consistency.

• Experience catering for special dietary requirements, allergies, cultural preferences, and texture-modified diets.

• Strong communication, teamwork, organisation, time management, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

• Ability to maintain accurate kitchen and food safety records.

• Basic computer skills, including the use of email and electronic records where required.

• Commitment to providing respectful and person-centred service to older people.

Qualifications & Requirements

Essential

• Food Handling Certificate.

• Current National Police Check (or ability to obtain).

• Evidence of the right to work in Australia.

• Ability to meet applicable pre-employment checks and immunisation requirements.

• Certificate III in Commercial Cookery.

• Food Safety Supervisor Certificate.

• Experience in residential aged care or another environment supporting persons with varied dietary and texture-modified requirements.
