Cairns Regional Council invites applications for a Senior Networking specialist to join the Telemetry and SCADA team at Tunnel Hill Treatment Plant in Cairns. You will lead the planning, installation, maintenance and optimisation of SCADA and ICS networks.

The role focuses on configuring and supporting industrial networking equipment, monitoring performance, coordinating upgrades, delivering cyber security initiatives and mentoring the team in a high-demand OT environment.

• Coordinate software, firmware and hardware upgrades across critical network infrastructure.
• Deliver cyber security initiatives within Council's risk management framework.
• Conduct network audits, manage asset lifecycles and maintain automated backup and monitoring systems.
• Provide technical advice and support for operational and capital works projects.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, procedures and standards.
• Mentor team members and participate in an on-call roster.

Salary Range: $102,167.42 - $110,382.66 per annum

Join our Telemetry and SCADA team and play a critical role in maintaining and enhancing the industrial control system networks that support essential water and wastewater services across the Cairns region. From network switches and firewalls to cyber security and system resilience, you'll help keep vital infrastructure connected, secure, and performing at its best.

What You’ll Do:

• Lead the planning, installation, maintenance and optimisation of SCADA and industrial control system (ICS) networks.
• Configure, support and troubleshoot industrial networking equipment, including switches, routers and firewalls.
• Monitor network performance, identify faults and implement solutions to improve reliability, security and resilience.
• Coordinate software, firmware and hardware upgrades across critical network infrastructure.
• Deliver and support cyber security initiatives aligned with Council's risk management framework.
• Conduct network audits, manage asset lifecycles and maintain automated backup and monitoring systems.
• Provide technical advice and support for operational and capital works projects across Council.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, procedures and standards.
• Mentor team members, share knowledge and contribute to a high-performing technical team.
• Participate in an on-call roster and provide remote and field-based support when required.

What We’re Looking For:

• Current C Class Driver Licence.
• Relevant tertiary qualification in engineering, networking, PLCs, HMIs, VSDs, or a related field.
• Strong experience with network switching, routing, segmentation, security and industrial network redundancy protocols.
• Practical experience working with Ethernet-based networks.
• Ability to analyse technical issues, document solutions and communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders.
• Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office.
• Proven ability to work autonomously while contributing positively within a team environment.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuous learning.
