Location: Sydney - Eastern Creek, NSW, Australia

Company: Transgrid

At Transgrid, we play a crucial role in delivering safe, reliable, and sustainable energy to millions of Australians. Operating over 13,000 km of high-voltage transmission lines and 128 substations across NSW and the ACT, we connect electricity generators to the distribution network—powering homes, businesses, and communities.

The Opportunity

As Control Centre Manager, you will lead the safe, secure and reliable operation of Transgrid's high-voltage transmission network across New South Wales and the ACT.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Network and Operational Control, you will provide leadership to a highly skilled team of operators, controllers and engineers responsible for monitoring and operating one of the most critical electricity networks in the National Electricity Market (NEM).

This is a unique opportunity to lead a function that sits at the centre of Australia's energy transition. As new renewables, storage assets and major transmission projects connect to the grid, you will play a key role in balancing system security, network reliability, operational risk and customer outcomes while ensuring the network continues to operate safely and efficiently.

Leading teams across our Wallgrove and Newcastle Control Rooms, you'll be responsible for building capability, guiding critical operational decisions, shaping operational strategy and fostering a high-performing culture within a 24/7 operational environment.

A Day in the Life

No two days are the same. One day, you may be working closely with network operators and engineers to coordinate major outages, network access and complex switching programs. The next, you could be leading the response to a system event, engaging with AEMO and industry stakeholders to maintain network security and minimise customer impact.

You'll partner with a broad range of stakeholders across Operations, Maintenance, Asset Management, Major Projects and Engineering to ensure operational readiness as new infrastructure enters service and the network evolves.

You will also:

  • Lead and develop a geographically dispersed 24/7 operational workforce across Wallgrove and Newcastle.
  • Provide leadership during operational incidents, emergency events and restoration activities.
  • Oversee outage coordination, network access and operational risk management activities.
  • Work closely with AEMO, generators, distributors and large customers to support secure operation of the power system.
  • Support the introduction of new technologies, assets and ways of working while maintaining operational safety and discipline.
  • Represent Transgrid on interstate and intrastate system operating committees and working groups, identifying emerging issues and opportunities that may impact the network or broader power system.
Why this role matters

Transgrid operates the backbone of the eastern Australian electricity system. Our network plays a critical role in connecting generators, distributors and major energy users across multiple regions of the NEM. As one of Australia's most significant transmission businesses, the decisions made within our Control Centre have a direct impact on power system security, energy reliability and the successful transition to a cleaner energy future.

The Control Centre Manager sits at the heart of this responsibility. This role combines operational leadership, people leadership and system-wide influence. You'll lead teams responsible for keeping the lights on today, while helping prepare the network for the increasingly complex demands of tomorrow. If you're looking for a role where your leadership genuinely shapes the future of Australia's energy system, this is an opportunity to make a significant and lasting impact.

About You

You're an experienced operational leader who understands how critical infrastructure, people and systems come together in high-consequence environments.

You bring demonstrated experience within electricity transmission, distribution, generation, system operations or related power-system environments and are comfortable making decisions in complex, fast-paced operational settings. Most importantly, you know how to lead experienced technical teams, build trust, maintain calm during incidents and bring people together around a common objective.

You will ideally bring:

  • Demonstrated leadership experience within electricity network operations, system operations or a related operational environment.
  • Strong understanding of power system operations, network reliability, system security and operational risk.
  • Experience leading technical or operational teams, ideally within a 24/7 or shift-based environment.
  • Exposure to the National Electricity Market (NEM), AEMO and broader electricity-industry stakeholders.
  • Experience managing incidents, emergencies, outages or other critical operational events.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management capability.
  • Electrical Engineering qualifications, Advanced Diploma qualifications or equivalent industry experience.
  • The ability to balance operational discipline, safety and reliability while driving continuous improvement and change.

You don't need to be the most technical person in the room. However, you will be a credible and respected leader with the judgement, operational experience and leadership capability to guide teams through both day-to-day operations and the challenges of a rapidly evolving energy system.

At Transgrid, we empower our people with a well-rounded benefits package designed to support their personal, professional, and social well-being, helping them deliver their best work every day. Employees have access to a range of corporate discounts across retail, utilities, travel, health & wellbeing etc., as well as novated leasing options, workplace flexibility, 20 weeks paid parental leave and more.

Beyond benefits, we believe in real development and progression. Here, you’ll have access to regular and ongoing training, tertiary education support, and career mentoring. Enabling you to build a career that evolves with you.
