Job summary

Karara Mining Limited (KML) in Perth CBD seeks an experienced Contracts Specialist to manage purchasing and procurement contracts for equipment and materials, on a six-month maximum term contract.

Ideal candidates will have strong tendering experience, practical contract drafting skills, and familiarity with mining industry contracting. Mandarin language skills and SAP experience are advantageous, and a security clearance may be required.

Qualifications

• Degree Qualifications in Law, Accounting, Commerce, Engineering or related disciplines.
• Sound understanding of the principles and practice of Contracts Management with practical experience.
• Commercial contracts management and administration experience in a similar role.
• Experience using contractual documentation for Commodity, Service and Project contracts.
• Understanding of Contracts/Commercial Law and its application.
• Mining industry exposure in a similar role is beneficial with SAP experience.
• Mandarin language ability is advantageous.
• National Police clearance.

Responsibilities

• Ensure contractors comply with safety policies, procedures, and codes of practice.
• Align procurement and contracting processes with business policies and best practices.
• Handle tender clarifications, non-conformance qualifications, and exceptions.
• Ensure contractors deliver goods, services, and projects per terms.
• Administer contract revisions, progress claims, and variations.
• Interpret documents and support site teams in negotiations.
• Prepare contractual correspondence and reports within deadlines.
• Maintain the commercial register including guarantees, claims, variations, and insurance docs.
• Communicate with stakeholders and conduct regular meetings as needed.
• Manage documents and data efficiently.

Karara Mining Limited (KML) is an Ansteel Group company. Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

The opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Contracts Specialist to join our Business Planning & Commercial team at our Perth CBD office, this position will operate on a 6-month Maximum Term Contract.

The role primarily involves managing purchasing and procurement contracts for equipment and materials. Candidates with strong tendering experience and a solid background in contract drafting will be highly regarded, especially those who have been involved in fuel purchasing.

To be successful in the role, the following is essential:

• Degree Qualifications in Law, Accounting, Commerce, Engineering or related disciplines
• Sound understanding of the principles and practice of Contracts Management with practical experience
• Demonstrated commercial contracts management and administration experience in similar role
• Practical experience in the use of contractual documentation in Commodity, Service and Project type contracts
• Sound comprehension of the Contracts/Commercial Law and application
• Past exposure to Mining industry in similar role with experience using SAP is beneficial
• Fluency in Mandarin would be advantageous
• National Police clearance
