Job summary

Karara Mining Limited is seeking an experienced Control Room Operator to safely operate the Karara Concentrator control room in line with established procedures and guidelines. The role works on a full-time roster including 8 days on/6 off and night shifts, with FIFO from Perth or DIDO from Geraldton.

Requirements include a WA C Class Driver’s Licence, strong mechanical skills, and clear English communication.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor Karara Concentrator control room systems safely and efficiently.
• Deliver according to specifications and adherence to procedures.
• Record, report, and assist with process improvements.
• Collaborate with metallurgists, control system engineers, fitters and electricians, and site contractors during downtimes.

Job description

Karara Mining Limited (KML)is an Ansteel Group company formed as a joint venture with Gindalbie Metals Limited. Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

The opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and highly and highly skilled Control Room Operator responsible for safely operating the Karara Concentrator Control Room in accordance with established operating protocols and guidelines. The role requires strict adherence to Safe Working Procedures and effective communication with field personnel.

Working on a Full-time8 days on 6 days off and 7 nights on 7 days offroster, FIFO from Perth or DIDO from Geraldton.

To be successful in the role, the following is essential:

• Western Australian C Class Driver’s Licence
• Strong mechanical skills and proficient in written and verbal English communication
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Commitment to ongoing improvement and learning
• Experience with operating PCS systems in a control room environment, with a solid understanding of mineral processing
• Control system experience within continuous process industries
• Skilled in prioritising and managing multiple tasks, with the capability to provide clear guidance to team members in a processing plant
• National Police clearance

  • Scavenger Magnetic Separation (SMS)
  • Concentrate Thickener, Filtering, and Storage
  • Tails Thickener, Filtering, Disposal
• Ensure all plans, procedures, and work instructions are understood and followed, maintaining full compliance with safety, environmental, and company standards
• Complete all reporting accurately and in a timely manner
• Work effectively with other departments such as:
  • Metallurgists and Laboratory Technicians for sampling and quality assurance
  • Control System Engineers for optimisation and continuous improvement
  • Fitters and Electricians for maintenance and repairs
  • Mining Department for ore delivery and concentrate loading
  • Site contractors during tails system downtimes

About Us

Located 200 km south-east of Geraldton in the Shire of Perenjori, Western Australia Karara has an expected mine life of 30+ years. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks. As part of the logistics network Karara owns and operates 80km of railway between Tilley Junction and the Karara mine site, linking the Karara Export Terminal at the Port of Geraldton, able to handle up to 16 Mtpa of export product from a dedicated berth, with associated rail and train unloading infrastructure.
