Job summary

MRAEL is seeking a supervising trainee coordinator to oversee Certificate I in Construction trainees on community projects. You will mentor participants, enforce WHS practices, and coordinate daily site tasks to ensure safe and productive outcomes.

You will report on attendance and progress, maintain records, and collaborate with RTOs and partners to align training with funded requirements. This role is based in Scarborough with travel as needed.

Qualifications

  • Relevant trade qualification, a White Card, and a current Driver's Licence.
  • Strong construction knowledge, WHS and hazard/risk management.
  • Ability to mentor disadvantaged job seekers with patience and supportive leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Site supervision & coordination of daily tasks.
  • Mentoring and coaching trainees on construction skills and employability.
  • Conduct toolbox talks and manage hazards and risks with a focus on safety.
  • Monitor trainee attendance, performance, and progress, and maintain project documentation.
  • Collaborate with project staff, community partners, and the RTO to align learning with outcomes.

Job description

About the Role

Your primary responsibility will be supervising and mentoring trainees undertaking their Certificate I in Construction, ensuring safe and productive work practices across community-based construction projects.

The role requires a combination of strong construction industry knowledge, practical supervision skills, and the ability to support and mentor trainees in a safe and inclusive environment. You will ensure full compliance with WHS guidelines, Skilling Queenslanders for Work (SQW) funding requirements, and organizational policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Site Supervision & Coordination: Coordinate daily site activities, allocate tools and materials, and ensure all construction tasks are completed safely and in line with project requirements.
  • Mentoring & Coaching: Provide hands-on, on-the-job coaching to support participants in developing both practical construction skills and essential employability skills.
  • Safety & Compliance: Conduct site safety briefings (toolbox talks), manage hazards and risks, and maintain accurate safety records to ensure an inclusive, secure environment.
  • Administration & Reporting: Monitor and record trainee attendance, performance, and progress. Maintain project documentation in line with workplace, training, and SQW funding requirements.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Liaise regularly with project staff, community partners, and the Registered Training Organisation (RTO) to align workplace learning with formal training outcomes.
What You Bring to the Team
  • Qualifications: A relevant trade qualification, a valid White Card, and a current Driver's Licence.
  • Industry Knowledge: Strong background in construction work practices, WHS, and hazard/risk management.
  • The Right Mindset: An understanding of the unique challenges faced by disadvantaged job seekers, paired with exceptional patience and conflict resolution skills.
  • Leadership & Communication: Proven ability in site supervision, work planning, and team coordination, alongside strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Organizational Skills: Excellent time management and detailed recordkeeping capabilities.
  • Cert IV in Training and Assessment is highly regarded
Salary

$70,000 – $77,000 per annum + superannuation

Employment Type

Contract (with potential to become ongoing, subject to funding)

Location

Scarborough - Personal vehicle required (kilometre reimbursement provided for site travel)
