Job summary

Dentons Australia is seeking a junior governance/conflicts lawyer or conflicts analyst to join the General Counsel and Risk Department in Sydney, with potential to base in other Australian offices. The role begins on a 6‑month contract (full-time or part-time) with possible extension.

You will support the General Counsel and Company Secretary, handling conflict clearance, risk analysis, and compliance with public company obligations, including share registers and meeting requirements.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years PQE in corporate, commercial, compliance or company secretarial experience
• Experience in a professional services environment
• Excellent research and analytical skills

About the Role

We have a compelling temporary opportunity for a junior governance / compliance lawyer or conflicts analyst seeking to move in-house into our General Counsel and Risk Department, ideally based in our
Sydney office but may be based in any of our other Australian offices in
Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide or Brisbane. This role is initially offered on a 6 month contract basis (full-time or part-time) with the possibility of extension.

The role will report directly to the Legal Risk & Compliance Manager. The Conflicts and Compliance Lawyer will work as part of the global team and will be responsible for supporting the General Counsel and Company Secretary, and the Legal Risk & Compliance Manager, in providing a range of legal and compliance services to Dentons and its lawyers, including but not limited to:

• Executing Dentons' conflict clearance and client approval process with other members of the Conflicts team;
• Working closely with the firm locally and globally to streamline conflict processes and analyse information in the firm's conflict management system and other databases;
• Educating and training staff on conflicts matters and participating in conflicts / risk presentations across our Australian and PNG offices;
• Providing general legal advice to the firm and identifying and addressing legal risk issues across the firm, including in contractual arrangements, lawyers' professional obligations and professional indemnity issues
• Ensuring the firm's compliance with its obligations as a public company, including maintaining the firm's share register, drafting resolutions and advising on meeting requirements.

About You

This role would suit a Conflicts Analyst, Conflicts Lawyer, lawyer within a law firm Office of General Counsel, or a junior lawyer (1-2 years' PQE) with corporate, commercial, compliance or company secretarial experience, that has worked in a professional services environment and has excellent research and analytical skills.

A high level of attention to detail and a desire to move in-house are also sought. This is a fast-paced, high-performing and collaborative team, so a strong team-oriented approach is essential.
