Gilmour Space Technologies is seeking a skilled Composites Technician to join our Queensland facility. You will perform high-precision composites manufacturing, including lamination, vacuum bagging, curing, and surface finishing, contributing to rocket-grade structures.

The role requires a trade qualification in polymers/composites, at least four years of hands-on experience, and the ability to obtain an NV1 security clearance.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification in Polymer Processing, Composites, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in composites manufacturing.
• Must be capable of obtaining and clearing an NV Level 1 Security Clearance.

How you will contribute to our mission in getting Australia to space:

The below is designed to give you an idea of the role you will play. There will be many more exciting and innovative things to do.

• To support extended winding activities, additional hours, or alternative shifts may be required
• Perform composites manufacturing tasks to the highest industry standard
• All lamination techniques with precision and attention to detail
• Wet layup hand lamination techniques
• Vacuum bagging and vacuum pump proficiency
• Compression moulding processes
• Operation of autoclaves and ovens for curing composite components
• Spray painting and surface finishing of composite structures
• Trimming, demoulding, and finishing of composite components
• Precision measuring and QC of components
• Drilling, reaming, and trimming composite parts to tight tolerances using precision tools
• Composite defect repair, including sanding, scarfing, patching, and re-lamination
• Composite assembly including accurate part alignment, surface preparation, bonding with structural adhesives, and fastening using torque-controlled hardware
• Experience with jig and fixture setup for high-accuracy assemblies
• Operation of filament winders (training provided)
• Work with engineering teams to design and manufacture moulds, jigs, and tooling for efficient composite fabrication
• Develop, implement, and follow standard operating procedures for composite processes
• Read, interpret, and execute technical drawings, work instructions, procedures and engineering documentation
• Monitor and report any deviations from drawings, specifications, or procedures
• Handle, store, and dispose of hazardous materials in compliance with legislative and company safety standards
• Compliant with booking and tracking timelines and progress of work
• Maintain a clean, organised, and safe workshop environment
• Other duties as requested by Management

Mandatory Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• Trade qualification in Polymer Processing, Composites, or a related discipline
• Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in composites manufacturing
• Must be capable of obtaining and clearing an NV Level 1 Security Clearance
