Job summary

Gilmour Space Technologies is seeking a talented Composite Trade Assistant to join our team and help send rockets to Space from Australia. Conveniently located between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, our Bowen, North Queensland facility is purpose-built for designing and manufacturing rockets in-house, with the latest technology and tools to support innovation.

Qualifications

• Certificate II or III in Manufacturing is desirable.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail required.
• Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment and follow PPE standards.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and kit raw materials for manufacturing jobs.
• Cut reinforcement fabrics and consumables both manually and on CNC plotter cutter (training provided).
• Receive, identify, store, and manage composite materials in accordance with specifications.
• Maintain freezer storage and material traceability records for prepreg materials.
• Monitor material shelf life and usage.
• Clean, inspect, prepare, and maintain moulds and tooling.
• Assist with tooling assembly and setup.
• Prepare workstations prior to production activities.
• Operate basic workshop equipment safely.
• Load and unload curing ovens.
• Maintain housekeeping standards.
• Assist with workshop consumable inventories.
• Follow work instructions and standard operating procedures.
• Ensure compliance with safety requirements and PPE standards.
• Assist with production documentation and traceability records.

Material Preparation:

• Prepare and kit raw materials for manufacturing jobs

• Clean, inspect, prepare, and maintain moulds and tooling
• Apply release agents and prepare mould surfaces
• Assist with tooling assembly and setup

Workshop Support:

• Prepare workstations prior to production activities
• Operate basic workshop equipment safely
• Load and unload curing ovens
• Maintain housekeeping standards
• Assist with workshop consumable inventories

Quality and Safety:

• Follow work instructions and standard operating procedures
• Ensure compliance with safety requirements and PPE standards
• Assist with production documentation and traceability records
• Other duties as requested by Management

Minimum Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• Certificate II or III in Manufacturing (desirable)
• Strong mechanical aptitude
• Attention to detail
• Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment
• Eligibility to obtain NV1 Security Clearance
