Job summary

MacKellar Group in Blackwater, QLD, is seeking a Component Fitter to remove, inspect, repair, rebuild and install components on heavy mining equipment. You’ll join a professional workshop team and work to OEM specifications.

The role offers a permanent full-time position with a 5/2/4/3 roster, 12-hour day shifts, and competitive hourly rates up to $71.08 plus super. Candidates should be trade-qualified Diesel Fitters or Plant Mechanics with experience in heavy mining.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification as Diesel Fitter or Plant Mechanic.
• Experience with heavy mining equipment and components.
• Ability to strip, rebuild, test and recommission components to OEM specs.

Responsibilities

• Perform component change-outs, strip-downs, inspections, overhauls and rebuilds.
• Assess wear, damage and repair needs on heavy mining components.
• Complete planned maintenance safely and efficiently.
• Fault finding and diagnostic work with OEM specifications.
• Test and recommission components to OEM standards.
• Record and report maintenance activities.

About the Role

As a Component Fitter, you will be responsible for the removal, inspection, repair, rebuild and installation of components across a range of heavy mining equipment.

You will work as part of a professional workshop team, ensuring components are rebuilt and returned to service safely, efficiently and in accordance with OEM specifications.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Performing component change-outs, strip-downs, inspections, overhauls and rebuilds
• Assessing components to identify wear, damage and repair requirements
• Completing planned maintenance, repairs and component rebuilds safely and efficiently
• Fault finding and troubleshooting mechanical issues
• Testing and recommissioning components to OEM standards
• Accurately recording and reporting maintenance activities
• Working to site procedures, safety standards and OEM specifications
• Maintaining a clean, safe and productive workshop environment
• Working collaboratively with the broader maintenance team to meet operational requirements

Your Skills & Experience

To be successful in this role, you will be a trade-qualified Diesel Fitter, Plant Mechanic or equivalent with experience working on heavy mining equipment and components.

• Trade qualification as a Diesel Fitter, Plant Mechanic or equivalent
• Proven experience in heavy mining equipment maintenance and/or component rebuilds
• Strong understanding of earthmoving machinery and mechanical components
• Hands-on experience stripping, assessing, rebuilding and testing components
• Strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills
• Experience working to OEM specifications and maintenance standards
• Experience with CAT ET and SIS diagnostic systems is highly regarded
• A strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team
• A reliable and proactive approach, with the ability to meet deadlines and changing priorities
