Job summary

Diamond Energy in Melbourne is seeking an experienced Compliance Manager to join the Legal team and oversee the compliance framework across regulatory identities. You will scrutinise the operating model and ensure alignment with the Compliance framework and register, reporting to leadership and regulatory bodies.

The role requires knowledge of Australian energy frameworks, risk management, and the ability to design controls for assurance audits.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in law, commerce, audit, risk or a related discipline preferred.
  • Audit, assurance, risk or compliance certification is well regarded.
  • Working knowledge of Australian energy compliance frameworks across both identities: the National Energy Retail Law and Rules; the AER Retail Exempt Selling and Network Service Provider Exemption Guidelines; the Victorian Energy Retail Code of Practice; and AER and ESC oversight.
  • Understanding of retail energy operations and the obligations that attach to billing, disconnection, hardship, life support, complaints and vulnerable customers.
  • Demonstrated control design and testing, evidence-based review and risk reporting to leadership.
  • Experience preparing and owning regulator-facing compliance reporting

Responsibilities

  • Own and continuously improve the compliance framework and program across both regulatory identities, so it aligns with regulatory expectations and the way Retail operates.
  • Set the standard for how compliance is evidenced, so the framework holds up to an AER assurance review
  • Perform independent checks on scope and impact: applicability (jurisdiction, segment, licence conditions), mapping obligations against the operating model and register, and risk and materiality rating.
  • Design controls that Compliance can stand behind in an AER assurance audit, distinct from delivery test plans and acceptance criteria.
  • Maintain the compliance risk register, issue logs and action trackers, with clear ownership and due dates.
  • Lead the breach lifecycle: assessment, escalation, regulator notification and tracking remediation through to closure.
  • Maintain constructive relationships with operational owners, Legal and external auditors and regulators, while preserving objectivity.
  • Present assurance findings and residual risk clearly to leadership and the relevant governance forum.
