Job summary

Canberra Consulting is recruiting Compliance Officers, Investigations Officers and Senior Officers for multiple opportunities with a Federal Government agency. The roles span APS5 and APS6 levels in Canberra, focusing on compliance reviews, investigations and reporting.

At APS5, contribute to assessments within a team and develop regulatory expertise; at APS6, handle complex cases, improve procedures and mentor juniors, under limited direction.

Qualifications

• Experience in compliance, investigations, audit, accounting, financial analysis, assurance or related field.
• Ability to apply legislation and procedures to reach well-reasoned conclusions.
• Strong report writing skills with clear briefs and advice.
• Australian citizenship with Baseline security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Review financial disclosures, assess funding claims and analyze financial information for compliance.
• Gather and assess evidence, examine documents and identify non-compliance; prepare reports and recommendations.
• Contribute to assessments and investigations in APS5; support junior colleagues in APS6 with guidance.

Compliance & Investigations Specialists | APS5 & APS6

• APS5: $88,834–$96,848 per annum + 15.4% super.
• APS6: $99,734–$109,639 per annum + 15.4% super.
• Location: Canberra.
• Employment: Full-time, non-ongoing APS employment directly with the agency.
• Initial term: Up to 12 months, with a possible extension to a total of 18 months.
• Anticipated commencement: 2 November 2026.

The opportunities

We are seeking candidates across two work streams:

Compliance

Review financial disclosures, assess funding claims and analyse financial information to identify issues and ensure compliance with legislative requirements.

Investigations

Gather and assess evidence, examine documents and financial information, identify potential non-compliance and prepare clear reports and recommendations.

At APS5 level, you’ll contribute to assessments and investigations within a supportive team, applying your analytical skills and developing your regulatory expertise.

At APS6 level, you’ll work under limited direction, take responsibility for complex assessments or investigations, contribute to improved procedures and guide junior colleagues.

What you’ll bring

Experience in compliance, investigations, audit, accounting, financial analysis, assurance or a related field will be highly regarded.

We’re looking for people who can:

For senior roles, you’ll also bring sound judgement, the ability to work independently and experience supporting others.

Qualifications or relevant experience in accounting, commerce or finance are highly desirable for compliance roles. A Certificate IV in Government Investigations, or willingness to undertake it, is highly desirable for investigations roles.

Eligibility

Applicants must be Australian citizens and hold a Baseline security clearance. Successful candidates must complete pre-employment screening and meet strict impartiality and political neutrality requirements.
