Job summary

Kmart is seeking a Compliance and Optimisation Manager to strengthen Profit Protection governance across stores and support functions. You will drive risk identification, policy maintenance and actionable improvements while partnering with Operations, Risk, Technology, Legal and Merchandising in a 12-month fixed-term contract.

You will lead digitisation efforts for stocktake processes and help embed consistent, compliant ways of working with stakeholders at all levels.

Qualifications

• Experience in retail operations, risk, compliance or related roles.
• Strong understanding of retail processes and operational controls.
• Ability to assess risk and translate findings into practical solutions.
• Experience leading projects across multiple stakeholder groups.
• Analytical mindset with data-driven decision making.
• Clear communication and stakeholder influence skills.
• Advanced Excel capability (pivot tables, lookups, formulas, charts).
• Profit Protection experience is beneficial.

Responsibilities

Join our Profit Protection team and help strengthen the processes, standards and insights that support safe, compliant and efficient retail operations. As Compliance and Optimisation Manager, you'll work across stores and support functions to improve governance, identify operational risk and turn data into practical action.

This is an opportunity to shape high-impact work, including the early stages of a multi-year stocktake digitisation program, the ongoing development of merchandise protection standards, and stronger central governance of Profit Protection processes and policies.

You'll partner with stakeholders across Operations, Risk and Compliance, Technology, Legal and Merchandise to deliver improvements that are meaningful, sustainable and easy for teams to apply.

This is a 12-month fixed term contract opportunity.

What you'll be doing

• Lead the governance and continuous improvement of Profit Protection processes, policies and standards.
• Identify process gaps, operational risks and compliance issues, then coordinate practical corrective actions.
• Help establish and progress the roadmap for digitising stocktake processes.
• Own and maintain Profit Protection policies, incorporating investigation outcomes and changing business requirements.
• Partner with Merchandise teams to develop and implement merchandise protection standards.
• Support contract owners with privacy, contractual and operational compliance across relevant supplier arrangements.
• Use store process metrics, shrink insights and reporting to guide decisions and prioritise improvement opportunities.
• Influence senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams to embed consistent, effective ways of working.

To be successful in this role you'll have:

• Experience in retail operations, risk, compliance, process improvement or a related role.
• A strong understanding of retail processes and operational controls.
• Demonstrated ability to assess risk, improve compliance and translate findings into practical business solutions.
• Experience leading projects or change initiatives across multiple stakeholder groups.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with experience using reporting and data to inform decisions.
• Clear, confident communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders at different levels.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel capability, including pivot tables, lookups, formulas and charts.
• Profit Protection experience is beneficial, but not essential.
