Job summary

Kanda is seeking compassionate care workers to support children and young people with a disability across a 24/7 roster in Cairns region. You’ll work one-on-one and in groups, assisting with daily routines, personal care and communication, always with dignity and respect.

You’ll bring a current driver’s license, Blue Card and screenings, plus First Aid/CPR. Training is provided, and the role offers supportive leadership and opportunities to grow in a child-safe environment.

Qualifications

• Current Australian driver’s licence (minimum P2).
• Working with Children Blue Card and NDIS Worker Screening Check, or willingness to obtain them.
• Current First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain them.
• Certificate IV in Child Services, Disability Support or Diploma in nursing.
• Experience supporting people with complex behaviours, using trauma-informed, person-centred approaches.
• Availability to work a 24/7 roster including two sleepover shifts per fortnight.

Responsibilities

• Support children and young people with disability, respecting communication styles, goals and dignity.
• Assist with personal care, toileting, hygiene and safety.
• Facilitate routines and life-skill development for groups of children aged 3–10.
• Remain calm during challenging behaviours and apply trauma-informed, person-centred strategies.
• Collaborate with team and follow behaviour support plans.
