Job summary

North West Community Services (NWCS) invites applications for the Community Engagement and Volunteer Coordinator role in Sydney's NW region. The role focuses on community development, volunteer coordination, and delivering inclusive group activities to strengthen social cohesion and belonging.

It supports health, wellbeing and capacity-building initiatives across the organisation. The successful candidate will build partnerships, recruit and train volunteers, and coordinate emergency relief

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in social work/social science/community services or relevant human services degree.
• Minimum two years experience working with vulnerable people, community and business.
• Experience managing a volunteer program.
• Experience developing group-based community activities.
• Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organisational, time management and computer skills.
• Risk and Compliance with Workplace Health and Safety requirements, Child and Young Persons Care and Protection Act, National Standards for Disability.
• Driver's Licence and fully insured motor vehicle.
• National Police Check
• Working with Children Check
• First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain)

Responsibilities

• Maintain and coordinate a strong volunteer network, recruiting, screening, induction, training, supervision and support.
• Lead delivery of emergency relief activities, including food hampers and donated goods management, liaising with donors.
• Facilitate information and referrals for community members.
• Support delivery of health and wellbeing initiatives, community events, training programs and capacity-building activities.
• Foster inclusive, connected and thriving communities through engagement strategies.

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic, suitably qualified, and experienced professional to join our Community Connections Team as a Community Engagement and Volunteer Coordinator. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about fostering meaningful engagement strategies that create opportunities empowering people to connect, participate, build capacity and thrive within their community.

The Position

The Community Engagement and Volunteer Coordinator plays a key role in strengthening communities by delivering inclusive and engaging activities that build community capacity, promote social cohesion, and foster a sense of belonging. This position is a community development and community engagement role focused on group-based activities, capacity building, volunteer participation and community connection. The role does not provide ongoing case management or intensive individual support services, but does facilitate information and referrals for community members.

Working within a strengths-based framework, the role supports the delivery of health and wellbeing initiatives, community events, training programs, and capacity-building activities.

A key responsibility of the role is maintaining and coordinating a strong volunteer network, ensuring volunteers are effectively recruited, screened, inducted, trained, supervised, and supported to contribute safely and effectively through meaningful activity across the organisation. The role also leads delivery of emergency relief activities, including the development and distribution of food hampers, management of donated goods, liaison with donors and community partners, and facilitation of related support initiatives.

The successful candidate will have the following essential requirements:

• Tertiary qualifications in social work/social science/ community services or relevant human services degree
• Demonstrated commitment to social justice, cultural diversity, accountability and integrity
• Minimum two years industry experience working with vulnerable people, community and business
• Experience managing a volunteer program
• Experience developing a range of group based community activities
• Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong organisational, time management and computer skills
• Risk and Compliance with Workplace Health and Safety requirements, Child and Young Persons Care and Protection Act, National Standards for Disability
• High level attention to detail.
