Job summary

CatholicCare NT seeks a Darwin-based Community Counsellor who will travel regularly to Daly River to engage with communities and deliver social, emotional, and wellbeing support. The role focuses on building relationships and supporting the Daly River and broader Darwin teams with counselling services.

Applicants should have a qualification in Counselling, Psychology, or Social Work, plus relevant experience. FIFO commitment and Indigenous engagement are valued in this position.

Qualifications

• Relevant qualification in Counselling, Psychology or Social Work (or related field) and relevant experience in a similar role.
• Minimum five years’ experience in relevant practice.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills including ability to write effective case notes within a designated structure.
• Demonstrated cultural competency, particularly with Indigenous people.
• Ability to commit to FIFO role and actively connect to community.

Responsibilities

• Travel to Daly River regularly to engage with the Community for social, emotional and wellbeing outcomes.
• Engage and networking with the Daly River community to build relationships.
• Support the Darwin Counselling team through one-on-one or group counselling support.

About The Role

The Community Counsellor is a Darwin based position that will travel to Daly River on a regular basis and is responsible for engaging and networking with the Community for social, emotional and wellbeing in order for the program to meet its objectives. This position has a particular focus engaging and networking with the Daly River community to build relationships. This role will also support the Darwin Counselling team through one-on-one or group counselling support.

What We Are Looking For

• Relevant qualification in Counselling, Psychology or Social Work (or related field) and relevant experience in a similar role
• Minimum five years’ experience in relevant practice
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills including ability to write effective case notes within a designated case note structure, and ability to contribute to funding contract reports.
• Demonstrated cultural competency, particularly in working with Indigenous people
• Demonstrated knowledge of Social and Emotional Wellbeing Framework
• Ability to commit to FIFO role and willing to actively connect to community
