Job summary

Boeing Defence Australia is seeking a Communications Systems Engineer to support evolving capability requirements, focusing on next-generation networking solutions and integration of RF subsystems within complex mission environments.

The role involves designing, analysing and testing RF and electrical systems, collaborating with mechanical and software teams, and delivering documentation and tests under strict Defence standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical or electronic engineering, or equivalent.
• Australian citizenship is required for Defence security.
• Experience in communications design and analysis, including RF components.
• Ability to perform link budget analysis and assess system performance.
• Experience with EMI/EMC standards and testing practices.
• Ability to integrate RF subsystems with other teams.
• Experience writing technical reports and development docs.
• Experience with electrical safety testing procedures.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a talented Communications Systems Engineer to support BDA's evolving capability requirements. This role provides the opportunity to apply your expertise to a variety of mission-critical projects, ranging from core product enhancement to the development and modernisation of complex, communications systems. You will work on next-generation networking solutions that serve as the cornerstone for multiple strategic projects, underpinning complex mission environments. By integrating bespoke, custom electrical power equipment and proven off-the-shelf components, we deliver world-leading communications capabilities. These modular systems are designed for high scalability and rapid deployment, providing the flexibility required to adapt to diverse and evolving mission requirements.

Responsibilities

• Develop diverse engineering solutions for RF, Electrical and Electronic solutions and custom electrical power equipment.
• Develop engineering documentation and ensure accurate configuration management of system hardware.
• Work with the project team to ensure the engineering scope is delivered within the cost and schedule constraints of the project, adhering to quality guidelines.
• Communicate and collaborate with a diverse, multi-disciplinary team, in a conscientious way.

Experience/Qualifications

Essential

• Bachelor's degree in electrical or electronic engineering, or equivalent.
• Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet Defence security requirements.
• Experience in Communications design and analysis - experience with circuit design, impedance matching, filters and antennas.
• Experience in RF propagation and link budgets, with an ability to perform link budget analysis and evaluate system performance.
• EMI/EMC compliance - knowledge of electromagnetic compatibility standards and test practices.
• Ability to integrate RF subsystems and electronics into larger communications systems and collaborate with mechanical and software teams.
• Experience in writing technical reports and developing documentation related to electrical and RF systems.
• Experience in the development of work instructions and test procedures for periodic electrical safety testing of electrical systems.
• Experience with testing, debugging, and validation of electronic systems using oscilloscopes, multimeters etc.

Desirable

• Experience within Defence or complex engineering project environments is desirable.
• Experience with secure and resilient communications systems (frequency hopping, encryption, or anti-jam techniques).
• Familiarity with satellite, radar, or tactical data link systems.
• Experience in electronic and system design, including schematic capture and printed circuit board design (as well as for RF circuits), using CAD software such as Altium Designer.
• Exposure to defence standards and MIL-STD specifications.
