Job summary

Calleo in Canberra seeks an experienced Communications Officer (APS 5/6) to support security awareness initiatives in a complex government environment. Responsibilities

• Support the implementation and promotion of organisational security frameworks and initiatives.
• Develop and deliver innovative communication and awareness materials (written, digital, visuals).
• Assist in planning and executing security awareness campaigns and change programs.
• Conduct stakeholder outreach to raise awareness of security requirements.
• Research and analyse to support timely, accurate security advice.
• Manage shared channels and respond to enquiries, escalating complex matters.

Overview

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced and energetic Communications Officer to support the delivery of security awareness initiatives within a complex government environment. This role is responsible for developing and implementing engaging communication campaigns, supporting change management activities, and promoting a strong culture of security awareness across a diverse and geographically dispersed workforce.

Working within a high-performing team, you will contribute to the protection of people, information, and assets by delivering clear, effective, and innovative communication solutions. You will play a key role in positioning the division as a trusted authority on security governance, policies, and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Support the implementation and promotion of organisational security frameworks, policies, and initiatives.
• Develop and deliver innovative communication and awareness materials, including written content, digital communications, visual assets, and engagement activities.
• Assist in planning and executing security awareness campaigns and change management programs.
• Conduct stakeholder outreach activities to increase awareness and understanding of security requirements and initiatives.
• Conduct research and analysis to support the delivery of timely and accurate security advice.
• Manage shared communication channels and respond to enquiries, escalating complex matters where required.
• Prepare correspondence, briefing notes, reports, and other communication products for internal stakeholders.
• Interpret legislation, policies, and regulatory requirements to support communication and awareness activities.

Skills and Experience

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing high-quality correspondence, reports, briefs, and communication materials.
• Experience developing and delivering communication campaigns, stakeholder engagement activities, or awareness programs.
• The ability to think strategically, exercise sound judgement, and demonstrate initiative in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Experience working within complex government, corporate, or regulated environments will be highly regarded.

Desirable Skills

While not essential, experience in one or more of the following areas would be advantageous:

• Graphic Design (Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop and/or Illustrator)
• Event Management or Project Delivery
• Training and Assessment
• Marketing or Public Relations
• Technical Writing
