Catholic Social Services Australia is seeking a Communications Officer for a permanent part-time role in Canberra. You'll manage digital communications, create engaging content, and contribute to social services outreach. Catholic Social Services Australia (CSSA) is the Catholic Church’s peak national body for social services, representing around 40 member organisations who support over a million Australians annually in metropolitan, regional and remote communities.
As Communications Officer, you’ll be responsible for managing CSSA’s internal and external digital communications, website and outreach activities. Working closely with our Executive Director and Director Corporate Relations, you’ll create engaging content that promotes our mission, activities and impact across multiple platforms.
This permanent part-time role (3 or 4 days per week) is based in Canberra, and offers an opportunity to contribute to important social services communications that reach vulnerable Australians.
Manage and update content of CSSA’s website and implement an effective social media strategy
Produce regular communications and publicity materials for CSSA members and other stakeholders
Support the preparation of media releases and external communications
Provide advice and support regarding CSSA corporate identity and branding
Develop multimedia content including graphics, videos and other digital assets
Support effective communication with CSSA members through newsletters and updates
Assist with the drafting and publication of the Annual Report and other key publications
Support the promotion of CSSA events, reports and advocacy campaigns
Monitor and report on communications performance metrics
Translate complex policy and advocacy messages into accessible content
Proven success in a communications role, with emphasis on digital communications and social media
Experience in digital content creation and website management
Competency with content management systems and social media platforms
Strong writing and editing skills
Basic graphic design and multimedia skills
Understanding of media relations principles
Tertiary qualifications or similar in communications, public relations or a related field
Understanding of, or capacity to understand and work within a Catholic organisation guided by Catholic Social Teaching
Self-starter with sound judgement and ability to work in a small team
Balancing operational tasks with strategic communications objectives
Translating complex policy issues into accessible content
Maintaining consistent messaging across multiple platforms
Understanding the organisational links between CSSA and the Catholic Church
Achieving outcomes with limited support in a small team
