Job summary

IMC is seeking a Commodities Analyst in Sydney to bridge market intelligence and trading. You will work with traders, researchers, and technologists to deliver real-time insights and deep fundamental analyses of oil, LNG, base metals, coal, and more.

Leverage Python/SQL to build models and dashboards, monitor global and China-specific trends, and identify catalysts. Fluency in Mandarin and English is required for a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in a commodities-focused analytical role in buy-side/sell-side/trading environments.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Economics, Finance, Engineering, Data Science or related field.
• Strong understanding of Chinese commodity markets and macro drivers.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL for data handling, modelling and visualisation.
• Familiarity with Bloomberg or similar market intelligence platforms.
• Fluent in Mandarin Chinese and English, both written and spoken.
• High attention to detail with clear communication in a fast-paced team.

Responsibilities

• Conduct fundamental, macroeconomic and geopolitical analysis across global/Chinese commodities.
• Develop understanding of value chains, supply/demand, trade flows and inventories.
• Monitor regulatory and policy developments affecting markets.
• Identify catalysts and structural developments across traded commodities.
• Generate trading ideas based on volatility and direction with traders.
• Track supply/demand, inventories, shipping, policy changes and market moves.
• Build and maintain data models, dashboards and tools using Python/SQL.
