Job summary

W Talent is seeking an experienced Estimator for a growth-oriented commercial builder in Melbourne. You will own tenders end-to-end from documents to submission, pricing accurately and shaping D&C solutions to win work.

You’ll review drawings, quantify materials, source quotes, identify risks, prepare cost breakdowns, and collaborate with PMs, design team and leadership to refine estimates and bids while maintaining timely tender submissions.

Qualifications

• 3+ years' estimating experience in commercial construction.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural/engineering drawings.
• Experience with D&C estimation is highly regarded.
• Knowledge of local building codes and standards is a plus.

About the business

Our client is a well-established commercial builder with more than a decade of delivery behind it. They deliver new builds and refurbishment projects of up to around $12M across community and civic, childcare, education and commercial sectors, with a growing share of Design & Construct work. The business is in a growth phase, and estimating sits at the centre of it.

The role

You'll own tenders from documents through to submission, working closely with the project managers, design team and leadership to price work accurately and competitively, shape D&C solutions and help decide which bids are worth chasing.

What you'll do

• Review tender documents, drawings and specifications and prepare detailed cost estimates
• Measure and quantify materials, labour and plant
• Source, analyse and level supplier and subcontractor quotes

• Prepare and submit tenders on time, including cost breakdowns and project budgets
• Work with the design team to develop accurate D&C estimates
• Attend pre-tender meetings, site inspections and client briefings
• Build strong relationships with suppliers, subcontractors and clients
• Run post-tender reviews to sharpen estimating accuracy and win rate
• Stay across market pricing, material costs and construction methods

About you

• 3+ years' estimating experience in commercial construction
• Strong understanding of construction processes, materials and methods
• Confident with Buildsoft, Cubit or similar, plus MS Office
• Able to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings
• Sharp with numbers, detail-focused and calm under tender deadlines
• Strong negotiator and communicator
• D&C estimating experience is highly regarded
• A qualification in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying or similar, and knowledge of local building codes and standards, are a plus
