SGS Australia is seeking a Coal Technician to deliver high-quality sampling, preparation, and analysis services in a permanent, full-time laboratory role with a 12-hour roster. The position offers strong on-the-job development and training in a dynamic laboratory environment in Australia.

Ideal candidates will have 6–12 months in a lab or coal-related setting, basic Excel skills, and a valid driver’s licence, with a focus on teamwork and meeting tight deadlines.

Qualifications

  • 6–12 months experience in a laboratory or chemical processing environment.
  • Previous experience in a mineral or coal laboratory (preferred).
  • Coal sampling, preparation, or testing experience (advantageous).
  • Basic computer skills (Excel beneficial).
  • A valid driver’s licence and reliable transport.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Ability to work 12-hour rotating rosters and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct accurate and timely sampling, preparation, and analysis of samples.
  • Follow approved procedures across sampling, recording, preparation, analysis, storage, and reporting.
  • Ensure accuracy, precision, and traceability of all samples.
  • Assist with calibration and preventative maintenance of laboratory and preparation equipment.
  • Follow both routine and non-routine sampling instructions from the Supervisor.
  • Support general laboratory operations and other duties as required.

Job Description

Join our team as a Coal Technician and play a key role in delivering high-quality sampling, preparation, and analysis services for both internal and external customers. This is a great opportunity to secure a permanent, full-time position with an 12 hour roster, offering stability and hands-on experience in a dynamic laboratory environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct accurate and timely sampling, preparation, and analysis of samples
  • Follow approved procedures across sampling, recording, preparation, analysis, storage, and reporting
