Job summary

SGS Australia seeks a Coal Technician to deliver accurate sampling, preparation, analysis, and reporting for CHPP and train operations across remote sites in Queensland. You will ensure traceability and maintain lab equipment while supporting a safety-first culture.

The role offers a 7/7 FIFO Day/Night 12-hour roster and opportunities to work across multiple sites, expanding technical capabilities. Applicants should be detail-focused and able to work both independently and in small teams.

Qualifications

• Experience in coal sampling, preparation and testing, or within a mineral laboratory environment (preferred but not essential).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Availability to work a 7/7 rotating day and night roster.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a small team in remote locations.
• A current Australian manual driver's licence (preferred).
• Current Standard 11 certification.
• The ability to meet pre-employment medical and fitness-for-work requirements.

• Execute precise sampling, preparation, analysis, and reporting procedures while maintaining the highest accuracy standards
• Deliver all work on schedule with meticulous attention to detail and quality assurance
• Maintain complete traceability and integrity of all samples throughout the testing process
• Proactively support the maintenance and optimal performance of lab and prep equipment
• Champion a safety-first culture by identifying hazards and promoting best practices across the team
• Foster seamless communication and knowledge transfer with incoming and outgoing shift teams
• Take ownership by immediately flagging unsafe or faulty equipment and escalating concerns
• Conduct routine sampling, preparation, and analysis for shipping and exploration initiatives
• Strategically plan daily tasks, coordinate sample logistics, and optimize testing schedules
