Job summary

Bupa Australia is seeking a Cloud Engineer to join the Next Gen Voice Platform team, shaping the future of our Contact Centre on AWS Connect. You will design, implement, and manage cloud-based systems, participate in on-call rotations, and collaborate with leaders to ensure high-quality, reliable services for our customers.

You will bring 7+ years in cloud software engineering, strong IaC and CI/CD experience, and a focus on security in DevOps to support scalable, compliant delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, IT, engineering, or a related field.
• AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, Developer, SysOps) preferred.
• 7+ years of software engineering experience with cloud-based systems.
• Experience with Amazon Connect and Lambda for data processing.
• Hands-on with AWS services: Lambda, DynamoDB, EC2, S3, RDS, IAM.
• Strong IaC experience with CloudFormation, Terraform or similar.
• CI/CD automation experience using tools like Jenkins or GitLab CI/CD.
• Solid DevSecOps understanding and security in DevOps pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Own cloud services for the Next Gen Voice Platform, including AWS Landing Zone and accounts.
• Perform cloud engineering tasks and provide guidance to the product team.
• Ensure compliance with requirements, policies, and architectural principles.
• Develop high-quality design docs and provide accurate estimations.
• Implement IaC to deploy and manage cloud infrastructure.
• Automate deployments, monitoring, and maintenance for reliability and scale.
• Integrate security into the DevOps pipeline and perform security audits.
• Lead incident response and root cause analyses to prevent recurrences.
• Collaborate with business and technology stakeholders to deliver rapidly.

Purpose of this job

Forming part of our innovative Next Gen Voice Platform Product Team as a Cloud Engineer, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Bupa’s Contact Centre platform (AWS Connect). You'll be at the forefront of designing, implementing, and managing cutting‑edge cloud‑based systems that drive strategic outcomes and deliver exceptional services to Bupa’s customers. Collaborate closely with business and technology leaders to ensure high‑quality, efficient service delivery and maintain the integrity of vital Bupa systems. This critical 24/7 platform requires a dynamic engineer who can thrive in a fast‑paced environment and is ready to participate in an on‑call rotation to guarantee continuous availability and swift issue resolution.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage cloud services comprising Bupa’s Next Gen Voice Platform, including ownership of the AWS Landing Zone, AWS accounts, and key integrations.
• Perform cloud engineering tasks and projects, providing technical guidance and support to the product team.
• Ensure all services, activities, and deliverables comply with Bupa’s requirements, policies, and architectural principles.
• Focus on analysis, solution, and technical design activities, delivering high‑quality documentation and realistic work estimates.
• Implement cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, or similar.
• Automate deployment, monitoring, and maintenance processes to enhance efficiency, reliability, and scalability of cloud services.
• Integrate security best practices into the DevOps pipeline, ensuring all deployments meet Bupa’s security and compliance requirements.
• Perform regular security assessments and audits to identify and mitigate potential vulnerabilities. Design, implement, and manage CI/CD pipelines to ensure rapid, reliable, and safe delivery of applications and services.
• Champion a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging the adoption of DevSecOps practices across the development and operations teams.
• Develop and implement robust monitoring, logging, and alerting frameworks to proactively detect and resolve issues.
• Lead incident response efforts, conduct root cause analysis, and implement preventative measures to avoid future incidents.
• Partner closely with business and technology stakeholders to understand requirements, priorities, and deliver high‑quality services at pace.
• Continuously monitor and optimize system performance, ensuring the Contact Centre platform meets or exceeds performance SLAs.

What you’ll need to make it possible

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified Developer, or AWS Certified SysOps Administrator are preferred.
• 7+ years of experience in software engineering, with a strong background in cloud‑based systems.
• In‑depth understanding of Amazon Connect, AWS’s cloud‑based contact centre service. This includes experience with configuring and managing contact flows, integrating third‑party systems, and using AWS Lambda for dynamic data processing.
• Experience with key AWS services such as AWS Lambda, Dynamo DB, EC2, S3, RDS, and IAM.
• Strong understanding and hands‑on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, or similar.
• Proficiency in automating deployment, monitoring, and maintenance processes using CI/CD pipelines and related tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD).
• Solid understanding of DevSecOps principles and practices, with experience integrating security into the DevOps pipeline.
• Understanding of Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), network connectivity, and security best practices (VPN, Direct Connect, etc.) when using AWS Connect in hybrid environments.
• Experience with cloud security, compliance, and governance, including performing security assessments and audits.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with a focus on solution design and performance optimization, Log Analysis and diagnostic tools.
