Job summary

The Far West NSW Local Health District in Broken Hill is offering a temporary full-time CAMHS role within the Safeguards team. You will apply clinical skills to plan and coordinate trauma-informed assessments for children and adolescents in crisis, in both community and inpatient settings.

The CAMHS Response Team works with perinatal and youth services, reporting to the CAMHS District Manager. Opportunities for education and professional development are provided in a supportive rural setting.

Qualifications

• Must meet criteria for CAMHS Level 1 roles.
• Experience in CAMHS and mental health settings.
• Available to work extended hours.
• Current unrestricted Australian driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Provide rapid, trauma-informed assessment and brief intervention for children and adolescents (0–17 years, or older if still attending school).
• Plan, coordinate, and implement developmentally appropriate assessment and care within CAMHS Safeguards.
• Work closely with the CAMHS Response Team and other services under supervision.

This position qualifies for an annual Recruitment Incentive Package up to the value of $10,000 (conditions apply and may be pro-rata’d to your contracted or ordinary working hours, these payments are paid on a fortnightly basis) under theNSW Health Rural Health Workforce Incentive Scheme.

This scheme recognises the role key health workers play in enabling the delivery of rural and remote health services, and aims to provide incentives over and above award entitlements, to attract and retain staff in these areas.

• Psychologist - $42.20 - $61.75 per hour + Superannuation

What you'll be doing

The CAMHS Response Team (Safeguards) is a new dedicated CAMHS resource, designed to provide rapid response and brief intervention (up to 6 weeks) to resolve child and adolescent mental health crisis across community and inpatient settings.

Apply clinical skills and knowledge to plan, coordinate, and implement evidence based, trauma informed and developmentally appropriate assessment to children and adolescents (0 to 17 years or older if still attending school) in acute mental health distress.

The position sits within the CAMHS Response Team (Safeguards) and works closely with the perinatal and youth services.

The position reports to the FWLHD – CAMHS District Manager with clinical guidance from the FWLHD – Senior Clinician - CAMHS Response Team (Safeguards).

• Experience in assessment, intervention and care coordination, in CAMHS.
• Demonstrated ability to problem solve and apply professional and ethical boundaries
• Contemporary experience and knowledge of psychological practice, as well as demonstrated understanding of the principles of trauma informed care and its application when working with children/adolescents and families/carers.
• Highly developed written and verbal communication skills and competence in the use of information technology systems.
• Available to work extended hours.
• Current unrestricted Australian drivers licence (P2 licence acceptable) subject to obtaining NSW drivers licence within 3 months of appointment.
