Job summary

Northern Beaches Hospital, Ward 4A within Northern Sydney Local Health District, invites applications for the Stroke Coordinator role. This part-time position leads and coordinates structured learning for nurses across NSLHD, under supervision by the Nurse Unit Manager and Clinical Nurse Consultant.

You will provide clinical teaching, orientation, skill accreditation and ongoing professional development support for nursing staff and students.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse – Division 1 with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
• Post-registration clinical or education qualifications or equivalent experience deemed appropriate by the employer.
• Demonstrated effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Demonstrated computer literacy.
• Demonstrated ability to practice safe nursing care and knowledge of policies and clinical practice guidelines.
• Demonstrated commitment to evidence based practice, continuous quality improvement and risk management.

Responsibilities

• Involved in hospital orientation and mandatory training and teach courses appropriate to nursing within and outside NSLHD facilities.

• Participate in development and teaching of the NSLHD Nursing Professional Development Program across sites.

What You'll Be Doing

The Stroke Coordinator will be guided by the Nurse Unit Manager and Clinical Nurse Consultant in leading, developing, co-ordinated and implementing all structured learning for nurses within NSLHD. They will provide clinical teaching, orientation, skill accreditation and professional development support for all nursing staff and students. The role will be involved in the provision of hospital orientation and mandatory training and is expected to teach in courses appropriate to nursing within and at facilities external to NSLHD.

The Stroke Coordinator will be responsible for facilitating the implementation, coordination and evaluation of best practise stroke care to the patients at in conjunction with the Stroke &Rehabilitation staff. This includes the coordination of the patient’s care through Acute Services, the initiation and participation in stroke service quality improvement and implementation of stroke education to acute and rehabilitation teams.

The Stroke Coordinator will participate in the development and teaching of the NSLHD Nursing Professional Development Program (this includes travelling to other sites within the LHD for lecturing and facilitation of workshops).
