About the Role

An exciting opportunity exists to join our Health Information Services team in a clinical coding role. In this rewarding opportunity, you will join the St Vincent’s Health Australia Private Division team as an experienced Clinical Coder with the opportunity to work across our 10 private hospitals nationally. It’s an exciting time to be joining SVHA with the soon to be introduced Meditech EMR.

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Accurate and timely coding of separations using ICD-10-AM, ACHI and the Australian Coding Standards as well as relevant state and national advice
  • Liaise with relevant staff to obtain additional information required to perform accurate coding
  • Be able to manage and prioritise own work
  • Actively participate in education, training and quality activities.

About You


You will be a highly organised and process driven individual. Critical to this role is a high level of accuracy, attention to detail and efficient time management skills.

Applicants must have:

  • Bachelor of Health Information Management or Certificate IV/Diploma in Clinical Classification
  • High level, practical knowledge of Australian Coding Standards
  • Minimum two years coding experience
  • Experience with private sector funding models would be desirable but not essential
  • Understanding of privacy and confidentiality requirements
  • Excellent organisation and communication skills
  • Strong communication skills to effectively engage internal stakeholders and team members
  • A strong level of computer literacy/knowledge
