Job summary

Donnybrook Primary School in Melbourne's northern suburbs is seeking anEducation Support Class Member to assist with student routines, safety and learning across a diverse cohort. The role supports teachers, collaborates with families and partners with community to deliver inclusive education.

The successful candidate will work five days a week from 8:45am to 3:15pm, providing health and wellbeing support and helping coordinate educational programs under supervision.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to support learning and engagement of a range of students with additional needs, including those with intellectual disabilities, and language or developmental delays.
• Demonstrated ability to support student safety and positive behaviour, including understanding functions of behaviour, triggers for challenging behaviours, and strategies to respond to behavioural challenges.
• Demonstrated skills working with neurodiverse children to support their learning and engagement.
• Demonstrated experience collaborating and problem-solving in a team environment, including excellent communication skills.
• Demonstrated alignment with Donnybrook Primary School's four values; including professional growth (ambition) and confidentiality in education support roles.

Responsibilities

• Provides routine support for teachers including assisting with planning of student routines
• Supports communication between teachers and parents
• Communicates with teachers on routine matters related to students and/or other responsibilities
• Provides basic physical care and wellbeing support for students such as toileting, meals, and lifting
• Addresses immediate behavioural presentations relating to specific students within a classroom setting aligned to school policy and procedure
• Provides basic support and supervision for individuals or groups of up to 4 students within a classroom setting
• Supports teachers in the coordination of educational programs independently or under minimal supervision, including rostering and organising the work of a team of aides
• Provides medical intervention support to a student under specific conditions, with appropriate training and guidance
• Provides specialised communication support for students and teachers in areas such as AUSLAN and braille
