About The Opportunity

Yegal is partnering with a leading insurance and financial services organisation to offer law students and graduates a unique paid placement as Claims Consultants.

This role is ideal for students close to graduation or recent graduates who want to add corporate office experience to their CV. A claims role is also a strong alternative to unpaid volunteer legal work, as it provides practical experience in liability, dispute resolution, and stakeholder management while working in a professional commercial environment.

Claims roles often serve as a bridge between university studies and longer-term opportunities in private practice or in-house legal teams.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of insurance claims from lodgement through to resolution.
  • Act as an advocate for clients throughout the claims process, ensuring professional and empathetic customer service.
  • Interpret and apply policy wordings, terms, conditions, and exclusions.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant statutory guidelines and company service standards.
  • Escalate and collaborate with senior staff on complex matters, with referrals made to external law firms where required.
  • Liaise with a wide range of stakeholders, including service providers, insurers, and legal professionals.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and maintain accurate claim records.
What You’ll Gain
  • Paid corporate experience directly relevant to insurance law, liability, and dispute resolution.
  • Opportunities to apply and develop legal problem-solving, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
  • Exposure to commercial practice, client service, and regulatory compliance.
  • A hybrid work model, combining Sydney CBD office time with the flexibility to work from home.
  • An excellent stepping-stone for those considering future careers in litigation, insurance law, or commercial practice.
