Job summary

Ararat Rural City Council invites applications for a Plant Operator to support the construction, maintenance and renewal of civil infrastructure assets. The role focuses on safe operation of plant, roads, drainage and concrete works to deliver high‑quality community assets.

The position requires an HR licence, White Card, Traffic Management accreditation and first aid. A commitment to safety, teamwork and customer service is essential, with flexible working options available.

Qualifications

• Must hold a valid HR licence and White Card.
• Traffic Management accreditation is required.
• Level 2 First Aid or willingness to obtain.
• Plant operation licences, tickets or competencies are required.
• Experience in civil construction, roads, drainage or concrete works is advantageous.
• Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to construction, maintenance and repair of roads, drainage, concrete and related infrastructure assets.
• Undertake allocated works per approved standards, work programs and supervisor directions.
• Safely operate plant, machinery, equipment and heavy vehicles.
• Conduct routine inspections and pre-start checks; keep equipment in safe condition.
• Report defects, maintenance needs, hazards and issues to supervisors.
• Collaborate with supervisors and team to deliver infrastructure activities.
• Maintain professional and respectful interactions with contractors and the public.
• Comply with OH&S requirements and Council policies.

Education

Victorian HR driver licence

Construction Induction (White Card)

Traffic Management accreditation
