Job description

  • Director on the cards within the next 2-4 years
  • Lower North Shore location close to all transportation needs
  • Great salary $200k+ depending on experience.

Ready to have a greater say in the projects you take on, the people you develop and the direction of a flood engineering team?

An established national engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced flood specialist to take on an Associate Director position. This will suit someone who enjoys the technical challenges of flood engineering and wants broader responsibility for team leadership, client development and commercial decisions.

Make your experience count

You’ll be a senior point of contact when clients need clear advice on complex flood issues. You’ll help determine the approach, guide the team through delivery and ensure the recommendations stand up to scrutiny.

Alongside the technical work, you’ll have a direct role in winning assignments, planning resources and keeping projects commercially sound.

Your influence will cover
  • Setting the technical approach for major flood studies and reviewing the team’s analysis and recommendations.
  • Taking projects from initial scope and fee negotiation through to completion, keeping a close watch on costs, deadlines and quality.
  • Working through approval requirements with authorities and helping clients understand their options.
  • Building repeat business through trusted relationships and developing new sources of work.
  • Giving experienced engineers room to contribute while coaching less experienced staff and supporting their progression.
  • Planning team capacity, identifying recruitment needs and contributing to decisions about the practice’s future.
The background we’re looking for

You’ll bring at least 10 years in consulting flood engineering, with strong TUFLOW capability and familiarity with other relevant flood modelling and stormwater design tools.

An engineering degree, Engineers Australia membership and CPEng are required (or working towards). You’ll also need a thorough working knowledge of Australian Standards and authority requirements.

Just as valuable will be your record of leading people, managing demanding projects and making sound business decisions. You should be comfortable discussing fees and scope with a client, explaining technical findings and helping your team resolve difficult problems.

Further engineering qualifications and participation in industry committees or associations would be an advantage.

All enquiries will be treated in the strictest confidence. Note: Only Australian or New Zealand residents will be considered.
