Job summary

yourtown is seeking a Child and Family Support Worker in a maximum term contract ending March 2027. The role focuses on psychosocial support for families with children aged 0–12 experiencing mental health challenges, building capacity, safety and wellbeing.

You will collaborate with parents to strengthen parenting skills, enhance understanding of child mental health, and connect families with relevant services to create lasting positive change for children and caregivers.

Qualifications

• 3+ years’ experience working with families with complex needs and vulnerability
• Experience in leading, developing and facilitating individual and group interventions
• Comfortable working with primary school aged children
• Ability to communicate with and engage children and their families
• Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with key stakeholders

Responsibilities

• undertake needs assessments and develop and manage collaborative case plans
• provide individual supports to care givers and children to support problem solving; social skills; peer and family connections; and practical assistance
• engage families in outreach activities in the home and in the community
• ensure families are provide with support to develop life skills; build confidence and capacity and engage with relevant services
• provide psycho-educational groups and information sessions

yourtown’s Mind 4 Kids Program provides psychological therapies and psychosocial supports for children aged to 11 years with moderate mental health issues,
to improve their health, resilience and wellbeing.

The Child and Family Support Worker provides psychosocial support to families of children aged 0 – 12 years experiencing mental health challenges and
associated reduced psychosocial functioning. You will assist them to build capacity and stability that aims to improve individual and family safety and enhance
wellbeing and life prospects.

In this maximum term contract role (March 2027) role, you'll work closely with parents to help build their confidence, strengthen parenting skills, and deepen their understanding of their child’s mental health. By supporting families in this way, you'll play a key part in creating lasting, positive change in the lives of children and their caregivers.

Your role will include:

You will bring:

• passion, commitment and belief in young people
• diploma level qualifications in Child Development, Human Services or similar
• minimum of 3 years’ experience working with families with complex needs and vulnerability
• experience in leading, developing and facilitating individual and group interventions
• ability to communicate with and engage children and their families and ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with key stakeholders
• unrestricted drivers licence
