Job summary

Queensland Health is seeking an accomplished Chief Operating Officer to lead operational performance across one of Australia’s most significant regional health services.

You will drive day-to-day patient-centred operations, translate strategy into measurable clinical, operational, workforce and financial outcomes, and oversee a budget of approximately $1.2 billion with 5,900 FTE across multiple divisions and services.

Qualifications

Job description

Executive operational leadership across one of Queensland's largest and most comprehensive regional health services.

Reporting to the Health Service Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Operating Officer will provide executive leadership for day-to-day patient-centred operational services across THHS, translating strategy into measurable clinical, operational, workforce and financial outcomes. The role carries significant accountability across the Health Service, including approximately $1.2 billion in operating budget and 5,900 FTE, spanning five Clinical Divisions, Facilities and Integrated Support Services, hospital-wide patient flow and Public Health.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide executive leadership across the delivery of safe, effective and efficient patient-centred healthcare services
• Translate the Health Service's strategic priorities into integrated operational plans and measurable performance outcomes
• Drive operational excellence, productivity, service improvement and contemporary models of care across a complex multi-site environment
• Lead performance against key clinical, operational, workforce and financial targets, ensuring effective resource allocation and sustainable service delivery
• Provide executive oversight of commissioning major infrastructure and service development initiatives, including new and expanded healthcare services
• Lead and develop high-performing executive and operational teams, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement
• Provide executive leadership during major emergencies as the designated Health Incident Controller
• Build strong relationships with government, healthcare providers, community organisations and other key stakeholders across North Queensland

Background & Qualifications

• Significant senior executive leadership experience within a large and complex healthcare or public health environment
• Demonstrated experience leading large-scale, multi-site health service operations and multidisciplinary teams
• Strong understanding of healthcare strategy, operational performance, workforce planning and financial management
• Proven track record of delivering service improvement, transformation and organisational performance outcomes
• Strong experience in governance, risk management, quality and patient safety
• Highly developed financial and commercial acumen, with experience managing significant budgets and resources
• Exceptional communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to operate effectively at executive and government levels
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in health, business, management or a related discipline; postgraduate qualifications will be highly regarded
