Job description

Help shape the next stage of growth for Epilepsy Action Australia

Flexible location | Executive leadership role | Operations, growth and organisational performance

Epilepsy Action Australia is seeking an accomplished and commercially minded Chief Operating & Growth Officer (COGO) to help lead the organisation through its next stage of development and growth.

This is a broad and influential executive role, working in close partnership with our CEO to turn strategy into action, strengthen organisational performance and drive sustainable growth across the organisation.

We are looking for someone who can see the big picture and make things happen.

Someone who can connect strategy, people, systems, services, marketing and financial outcomes. Someone comfortable moving between executive-level thinking and practical execution. And importantly, someone who wants to use their leadership experience to contribute to an organisation making a meaningful difference.

The opportunity

As COGO, you will be the CEO’s principal internal partner, helping translate strategy into execution and ensuring the organisation has the systems, capability and performance required to achieve its objectives.

This isn’t a role where you will simply inherit a portfolio and maintain the status quo. We are looking for someone who will identify opportunities, improve the way we work and help build the organisational capability needed for sustainable growth.

What you'll be responsible for

You will translate organisational priorities into measurable outcomes, with responsibility for:

  • leading organisational performance, operational efficiency and continuous improvement

  • Identifying and pursuing opportunities for organisational growth, increased impact and long-term sustainability

  • establishing meaningful KPIs and strengthening accountability across the organisation

  • leading marketing, brand and digital strategy to increase awareness, engagement and service uptake

  • connecting services, fundraising and marketing to maximise organisational impact and support sustainable growth

  • overseeing financial performance, resource allocation and outsourced corporate services

  • overseeing the performance of our service portfolio

  • leading cross-functional initiatives and strengthening organisational capability, governance and risk management.

You will provide operational leadership across a broad organisational portfolio through a small group of direct reports, including managers responsible for fundraising, service development, and service delivery, supported by our Administration Coordinator and Digital Coordinator. You will also coordinate the work of a small number of office-based staff whose functional reporting sits elsewhere in the organisation.

About you

We're less interested in a candidate who can simply tick every box and more interested in finding the right executive for our organisation. You will bring strong strategic thinking combined with an equally strong ability to execute.

You’ll be someone who:

  • thinks at an enterprise level rather than within functional silos

  • understands how operational performance and growth fit together

  • can bring clarity and momentum to competing organisational priorities

  • makes sound, data-informed decisions

  • is comfortable leading change and challenging the way things have always been done

  • can build accountability while bringing people with them

  • has the leadership presence and credibility to work effectively across an organisation

  • is adaptable, pragmatic and willing to get involved when required.

Experience spanning several areas such as operations, strategy, growth, marketing, financial management, organisational development or service-based organisations would be valuable.

Above all, we’re looking for someone with the judgement, capability and motivation to become a trusted partner to the CEO and help strengthen the organisation for its next phase.

Why Epilepsy Action Australia?

This is an opportunity to apply your executive experience in an organisation with a clear purpose, while having genuine influence over how the organisation operates, grows and delivers on its strategic priorities.

The role offers a flexible location and the opportunity to work across the breadth of the organisation as part of its executive leadership.

At Epilepsy Action Australia, lived experience is an important part of who we are. We welcome applications from people with epilepsy, family members, carers and others with lived experience of epilepsy, and recognise the valuable perspectives this can bring to our organisation and leadership.
